I believe that there are already Video cards that have HDMI outputs on them. I know for a fact that there are some laptops out there with HDMI outputs on them. It is also rumored that the next Apple displays to come out with have HDMI ports on them.

I did a search on ati.com for HDMI and their cards are "HDMI interoperable and HDCP ready".
Whatever that means! http://searchna.ati.com/promosearch/...59-1&sp_q=hdmi |

There's really no need to have an hdmi connection on a video card. Hdmi is identical to dvi, minus the audio. You just need to get a ~$10 dvi > hdmi cable (as opposed to a ~$10 hdmi > hdmi cable) and you're good to go. The nvidia & ati drivers automatically recognize the tv and set it up for 720p/1080i/1080p resolutions (or the different lcd resolutions).
You'll probably see hdmi appear on laptops first for the smaller size, but they'll stick with a dvi connection on desktops for a long time. Last edited by dakota81; 05-02-2007 at 09:24 PM. |

Well, to tell you the truth, it's the audio and video switching at one source that would interest me. They are making 7.1 video cards now. If I can just send all my signals via HDMI it would take some headache out of wiring my system and integrating my computer (when I upgrade).

Current HDCP compliant video card chipsets:
ATI - X19xx and up nVidia - 8500/8600/8800 You do not need an HDMI port to get HDCP out. You can always use a DVI to HDMI cable or adapter. Also nVidia 8500/8600 series chipset based video card(s) is the best chipset for H.264 (Hi-Def) playback because they're the only chipset that supports full hardware Hi-Def acceleration. |
