Default Fat PS3 80gig life expectancy?

does anyone have any idea what the life expectancy is on a FAT ps3 80 gig?
I bought this one 3 years ago this December and had to send it in to get the Video card replaced on it after 5 months, they repaired it and sent it back to me and i haven't had a single issue with it until today when I got home. I turned on my TV and the PS3 and it never picked up the HDMI signal. I did the hard reset on it and hooked the component cables up to it it came right up did another reset and it showed it detected the HDMI cable and i set it to run HDMI and changed to the HDMI input and it never came up. So I unplugged that HDMI end from the PS3 and plugged it into my stand alone Blu Ray player and it picked it right up.

So my question is does anyone know what the life expectancy is on the Fat PS3? I don't even use it everyday, it may still be under the Sony Warranty but I bought this from Game Crazy with the 3 year warranty but they closed so i don't think there is anyway to get them to replace it. I am trying to avoid buying another PS3. it still works with component cable but that just bugs me knowing its not HDMI.

It's a electronic device, not a living being. They don't have a life expectancy.

My 80GB Metal Gear Solid 4 Backward compatible PS3 died of the dreaded YLOD after about 2 years of HEAVY use (it's on every single day for movies, games, downloaded shows etc)

I first got it in June of 2008 and it died in march of 2010. And i have bought the 120GB slim and it's been good ever since! But i do miss my sexy 80gb!

I got my fat 60gb when it first came out...2006? Early 2007? I just got the YLOD 2 days ago. I had it re-flowed last night which only cost $60. Sony wanted 129$ but it would have erased all my data. BACK UP YOUR PS3 if you haven't done so yet. Just in case. I would guess it will last another 3 years...so 8 years total?

FYI: Joshua from Trusted Relations in Seymour CT fixed my PS3 and did a great job. Didn't lose any data and was half the price anyone else charged. Very professional guy. (although I found him on Craigslist, he was definitely legit)

8-10 years with proper maintenance. DUST IT OFTEN and back it up. Taking good care of it would probably make it last even longer.

My Fat 80gb lasted about 2.5 years. She died last October after being used and abused every day for a few hours.

I leave mine on overnight, sometimes for weeks straight without turning it off. It's lasted me 2 years this Christmas.

Did yours come with Talladega Nights? Mine did and I have had 0 problems with it. I have it in an open rack with plenty of venitlation. I went by a local Best Buy and picked up a Clean Doctor lens cleaner for the PS3. Works great and the brushes are recessed a bit as to not scratch the lens. Also comes with sound and basic video calibrations tools. Picked it up for $15. Another recommendation I have is that for people looking for a cooling fan system is to pick up a laptop cooler. They aren't like the crappy Nyko ones that came out a few years ago. Instead of being on the back of the system, which does nothing but blow the dust into it as well as having the ability to get so hot that it melts to the back, it would sit underneath and use a front USB port. Most are as low as $20.

^Which I don't recommend lol (I've told you before, turn it off!)

Bought mine April 2008, still perfectly fine. It gets used 12+ hours a day usually, mostly games.
I do make sure to dust it often and turn it off every night.

I've had my 60gb PS3 (PS2 backwards compatible by software) for just over 4 years now without a single problem. I've stopped using it as much since last November when I bought my 1st stand alone blu-ray, but before that I was using it for 25+ hours a week.

Mine died right before the 3 year mark but I was using it heavily and for long hours. I repaired it once and it worked for 6 months and then broke down two more times very fast.

I have a 60GB( 320GB now) that I bought December 17th 2006. It has been used quite a bit over the years. With 2 kids and a wife that enjoys watching blu's with me and streaming of Netflix, I would say it is in the thousands of hours for use, easily. Still runs great. I Have it in an open air area, no enclosure at all. Hope it last till PS4 comes out. My PS2 from 2000 still runs, pretty good.

My 60gig fat-boy still rocks... no issues at all. Treat it well and it'll take care of you! Well, other than inherant manufacturers defects naturally...
