As the topic states, where do the cable and satellite companies get the HD versions of the movies they show?
I ask this because I just saw Gladiator on one of the CinemaxHD channels. On IMDB I see that Gladiator is filmed in 2.35:1 aspect ratio. On Cinemax, the movie was shown in full screen at 1.78:1. It was also most definitely not an upconverted DVD version because I have it on DVD and it looks nothing like the HD cable version. The Cinemax version was also pretty damn clear and sharp and definitely looked like HD. Also, according to my cable box the signal from the cable company is 1080i. I don't know if that matters or not. Gladiator isn't out on Blu-ray yet and I'm pretty sure it never made it to HD-DVD either. So what is the source of the version they show on TV? (Or any of the high-def movies they show that are not released on BD yet for that matter?) |

and the signal listed on the box from your cable company is for all programing in HD, the signal does not change per program, once you set that signal, all programs are displayed in that format, I.E 720p,1080i and nobody is doing 1080p yet, except for Dish network but that is just ther on-demand service |
