Default GAming adaptor and my Sony 550

Okay..I have a desktop computer with a linksys wireless G router (WRT54G ver 2) in the upstairs of my house.

I have the good ole Sony 550 hooked up to a linksys WGA54G-RM ver 2 gaming adaptor as so I can hook up to BD Live.

I have had this setup since the day I recieved my Sony.

Every so often the connection fails on me and I cant get into BD LIve.

..but usually, it comes back with no probs. UP until a few days ago.

I just cant seem to connect anymore. The light on the gaming adaptor is not picking up the signal to the router.

I know how to get into the router settings, but I am not hugely familar w/ routers and setup of them. I can do the basics.

Is there anything I should put into my router settings as so it will pick up the gaming adaptor? I have run the software for the adaptor, but since its not picking up the signal, the software wont reinstall. I cant get into the adaptor menu for the same reason.

Hopefully I have explained this well enough. If not..just ask me questions and hopefully I can respond.

Anyways...any thoughts? Are there settings within the router menu I need to be inserting in order to 'pick up' the gaming adaptor? Or is there something else?

Have you tried updating the firmware on your router? I was having connection issues a few weeks back with my linksys router. After the update I have not dropped my signal. Go to linksys.com and see if there is an update for you.

I am not sure how to do that.

I have the most up to date firmware...still nothing.

I cant get into the adapter menu, for it wont come up from explorer..nor will the cd, once running 'setup' find the adaptor.

I hate gaming adaptors. My son has 1 hooked upi to his crap-box and it is a major pain in the a**. Whenever he plays, the internet on the computer won't work at all. I am even pretty good with the networking stuff, hooked up the network by myself and I have no problems with the ps3 or the psp, but the second he turns on the box it won't work.
Good luck

Is the only other option a ethernet bridge?

I hate doing networking setup. I have never failed to figure it out in the past, but this one has me stumped.

Maybe it's time for a wireless-n spec router, mounted in a place in your house that's a little more central than your current router's location. I'm not a fan of ehternet bridges, although I've had friends who swear by them. For my money, it makes more sense to mount/install a better router in the spot where your bridge is than to have the router really far away in a point A to point B sense, with a bridge somewhere in the middle.

Give me a physical connection any day of the week over wireless, especially when connectivity stability (and performance related thereto) is an issue, like for gaming.

Yeah..the physical connection is not going to happen. I would tend to agree with you on that point though. It would just be more of a pain then what its worth to mount a router in a more central local.

Its funny....I have an Xbox360 connected...and a Wii...and another computer...none of which have problems staying connected. All are wireless and I dont think I have had one drop yet. I will probably have to go the bridge route.

Its just very strange though....the adaptor worked fine for a good month and a half...then just stopped. It was a refurb, so maybe that was the problem.

Anyways..thanx for the thoughts on it.

Do you know the ip address of your gaming adapter? If you do go into your router and there should be a section for DMZ ..just put the ip of the gaming device in there. setting that up as the dmz will give open access in and out over the internet for that device.

or you can go with bridging to routers. Thats what i have set up. If you guys have micro center anywhere near you you can pick up another router for under $35
