United Kingdom 15th Anniversary of Gran Turismo Europe -|Invite to GT6, 15.05.2013

Quote:
Sony Computer Entertainment Celebrates 15 Years of Gran Turismo®

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) will host a celebration of the 15th anniversary of ‘the real driving simulator’ at the world-famous Silverstone Circuit (UK) on 15th May, 2013. The original Gran Turismo® game was first seen in Japan in December, 1997, after five years of development by legendary designer Kazunori Yamauchi, and then released around the world during 1998. The franchise went on to become multi award winning and the biggest-selling PlayStation® title ever.

Yamauchi-san is set to provide an update on the future of the Gran Turismo game at Silverstone. His passion for all things automotive is evident in the ever-increasing levels of realism and attention to detail in Gran Turismo, and the huge range of cars for which it is famous. Strong relationships with the many manufacturers that have featured in the franchise have led to some fascinating co-operations with the automotive world; such as the Red Bull X2010 ultimate race car, GTbyCitroën concept, a design co-operation for a display featuring on the real Nissan GT-R and an innovative new app developed for the Toyota GT86.

In a close partnership with Nissan, PlayStation has taken the virtual-to-reality overlap, inspired by Gran Turismo, to a new level in the form of the Nissan PlayStation GT Academy. The now-famous racing driver development program selects the fastest GT gamers from around the world and transfers their talent to real-world racing. The competition began in 2008 and has gone from strength to strength. Over three million people have entered since its inception, and graduates of the Academy have recorded some impressive results, including a second-place finish in the 2011 Le Mans 24 Hours LMP2 class. Five Gran Turismo gamers turned GT Academy champions will be on hand at Silverstone. The ‘Nismo Athletes’ will be showing off their real-world racing skills with some high-speed passenger laps around the famous circuit, a track that has, so far, never featured in Gran Turismo.

This mutual respect and increasing blurring of the lines between the virtual and real, has led to the Silverstone event being well supported by a host of other manufacturers as well, such as Audi, BMW, Ford, Honda, Jaguar, KTM, Mercedes Benz, Tesla and Toyota. Real-life versions of their cars, old and new, familiar to the legions of passionate Gran Turismo fans will be on display and on-track as part of the event.

“The Gran Turismo franchise continues to be extremely important to PlayStation,” explained Jim Ryan, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. “We felt that 15 years of GT was an event worth celebrating along with our colleagues from the Americas, Asia and Japan. We are very grateful to our manufacturer partners for helping us to bring together a fantastic event. As well as experiencing the development of the game and comparing the virtual and real, it will be a pleasure to see Yamauchi-san and hear what’s next for Gran Turismo.”

Should be interesting. Here's hoping it gets to PS4 sooner rather than later.

Probably be a collection of 1-5 with a GT6 prologue disc for the PS4. I just don't see them screwing over the Drive Club group by doing a full GT6 reveal just yet.

PS4 can't launch with two racing games? Or have two racing games out in the 1st year???

GT6 would be a much larger system seller than Drive Club.

... But I doubt that GT6 for the PS4 would be announced at this event. Sony would hold off on that card for a much larger event.

They could, since I bet GT6 will actually be a PS3 game. It was announced back in 2010 a year before Sony had any alpha dev kits for the PS4. And Polyphony being Poloyphony, I would find it highly unlikely they'd be ready to announce GT6 for the PS4 just yet.

But the times just right for the next PS3 version since they can use a lot of the last games assets it would seem like the cheaper choice coupled with the 80-90million install base for the PS3 it would see the best returns in profit.

My point was that they seemed to fluff up Drive Club pretty big at their system reveal. It would seem counter intuitive to then bury the game you hyped up for your big reveal with your own 1st party game.

Worked for Microsoft when they had PGR, Rallisport Challenge and Forza last gen so no reason Sony couldn't hype both Drive Club and GT at the same time without burying Drive Club. Especially when everybody knows GT games take 20 billion years to develop

If it's not what I predicted already I've also been thinking it could be a 3 platform game. Make it cross buy/play with PS3/Vita now while having a Prologue disc for the PS4 that your save info can be transferred to. Then it'll be cross buy/play for the PS4/Vita as well. That way you still have plenty of sales with the PS3 base. The Vita gets a sales boost and Drive Club isn't looked over since they'll spend another year or two getting the full PS4 GT6 out.

Okay, i'm looking forward to this, but it's also giving me brain damage, because i just don't understand how GT6 on the PS3 can be any more than Gran Turismo 5.5 rather than a full OTHER game. I mean, they had enough difficulties getting GT5 to run at a virtually locked 60fps in 1080p. How can GT6 be anything excpet the same game but with visual improvements on the car models, a bunch of new tracks, and an updated range of cars? There is so much content in GT5 that anything GT6 brings will seem like a full-price add-on!

Exactly how I feel! I mean, I suppose from a business standpoint it makes sense given the large userbase but it also seems pointless. As you said, I don't see what they could possibly add/improve on with GT6 when GT5 already pushes the PS3 the way it does.

Well acording to them they've made it even more realistic on PS3!

Quote:
"GT6 for PlayStation 3 will bring new levels of authenticity to 'the Real Driving Simulator' as well as introducing stunning new tracks and cars and a revised user interface.

"A new compact game engine will improve operation and increase the flexibility to expand it with downloadable content."

Series creator Kazunori Yamauchi says: "It is amazing to think that it is 15 years since we first released Gran Turismo. Things have changed a lot since then and now Gran Turismo 6 is a further evolution of my dream. We're pleased to deliver GT6 to PlayStation 3 as we have a very loyal community on that platform."

the game will feature all of the cars and tracks from Gran Turismo 5, with fresh historic, road and race vehicles bringing the total car count to 1200 at launch. Thousands of custom wheels and aerodynamic parts will be available.

The UK's Silverstone Circuit will appear in the game for the first time in the series' history. It will be one of seven new locations, taking the total to 33, with 71 different layouts available, 19 of them new. Fresh cars and tracks will be made available as post release DLC.

Social and community features for the game will be supported on smartphones and tablets.
I guess they needed a game to force people not to trade in their PS3s towards PS4s

Roll on November, I'm going to be soooo ****ing skint...

Here's the scene from the event hall. I love the driving rigs they have set up in the cornor

Greetings PlayStation.Blog. Today we’re really excited to announce that Gran Turismo 6 will be released Holiday 2013. The news was revealed today by legendary GT creator Kazunori Yamauchi himself at our Silverstone event held to celebrate 15 years of the 70-million-selling series.

GT6 for PlayStation 3 will see many enhancements, improvements and additions to the game. bringing new levels of authenticity to ‘the Real Driving Simulator’. Features revealed today include stunning new tracks and cars and an overhauled user interface. There’s also a new engine, which will improve game operation. Meanwhile, we are set for expanded connectivity with other devices, and increased social and community functions.

The cars and tracks from Gran Turismo 5 — which has now sold over 10 million copies since launching in 2010 — will return in GT6, but notable new additions will bring the car lineup to over 1,200. Players will also be able to customize their rides to a greater extent than ever before.

Amongst the track line-up, the UK’s famous Silverstone Circuit will be just one of seven new locations in Gran Turismo 6, taking the total to 33, with 71 different layouts available — 19 of them brand new. This already impressive lineup of cars and tracks will be added to by future DLC drops beginning after launch.

Enhancements and improvements also extend to a much-improved course maker function, which will provide several kilometers of gorgeous scenery, including the magnificent backdrop of Andalucía. The course maker will also include a new GPS data feature, which will increase the freedom of track creation in the game.

“It is amazing to think that it is 15 years since we first released Gran Turismo,” said Kazunori Yamauchi, during the announcement at Silverstone Circuit. “Things have changed a lot since then and now Gran Turismo 6 is a further evolution of my dream. We’re pleased to deliver GT 6 to PlayStation 3 as we have a very loyal community on that platform. However, we have refactored the game to make it very flexible and expandable, with a view to making many future developments.

“I am very pleased with everything about the new game and the new additions, but the launch will only be the beginning for GT6. The game will continue to develop throughout its life. I already have many ideas for things I want to achieve in the next 15 years of Gran Turismo!”

Further news about Gran Turismo 6 will be revealed at the forthcoming E3 and Gamescom events, and on http://www.gran-turismo.com.

Dagnabbit, I just posted a GT6 thread!

Christmas 2013

1200 cars available at launch, more to follow as DLC

33 locations, 71 configurations with new tracks every month via DLC

Entirely new rendering engine for cars, new physics, etc

New track creator, spanning tens of square kilometers

Organise your own racing communities and championships

So, interesting stuff; GT6 on PS3 or Driveclub on PS4???!! The visuals look great on PS3 and hopefully they've finally sorted out the shadows, but surely it can't compare to what Driveclub will offer? I think it's very interesting that some of the features in GT6 seem to replicate DriveClub's.
