Default Standard DVD Pausing Problem

I know there have been some complaints about the Sony freezing up but I have noticed that when I play Standard DVD's in the Sony BDP S1 the movie periodically freezes for a second or two and you loose what was said during that time. This just happened to me during Blood Diamond last night. Any comments/suggestions? I currently have the most up to date firmware/software.

i assume you are using the ps3? it most likely is the layer change. all players pretty much do it...

I have the BDP S1. This may be a stupid question, but shouldn't a layer change only happen once during a movie?

Yes. A dual layer disk would only do the skip/pause just once during the transistion. The better the DVD player the less noticeable it is. Perhaps a read ahead buffer or something.

Something that causes a similar problem would be fingerprints or something on the disk that disrupts the laser from reading the DVD. Make sure your disc is very clean. Often holding it at and angle and tiltiing it back and forth so you can get different refelctions off the surface will allow you to see if there is any smudges or smears on it.

I have a Sony BDP S1 and I have not had any problems with SD DVD's. I also watched Blood Diamond and it played like a charm. Is your player fully updated?

Yes it is fully updated and the disk was spotless. Oh well, this may just be one of those "issues" that I will have to deal with until all the kinks are worked out. Thanks for all the input.
