You guys always give me good responses, I'm looking for more, haha.
Guitar Hero World Tour or Rock Band 2, which would you get? I've done some light reading on this and it's tough. From what I understand, you can use GH with the Rock Band instruments. More songs on RB, but more songs I know on GH. Drums better for RB, guitar better for GH. If you disagree with any of those statements, please tell me. I'm really on the fence here, help ![]() Thank you and we appreciate your support ![]() |

Rock Band 2, no question about it. I own every Guitar Hero except for World Tour and both Rock Band games. I like the songs on both about equally, but find the online experience and potential of Rock Band better. Friends who come over to play request only Rock Band 2. Finally, most game reviewers generally rate Rock Band above Guitar Hero, if that matters to you.

Rock Band 2 all the way!
It's been stated on various different gaming sites that bands prefer playing RB themselves, however GH has more money to throw at bands. Also, GH is opting to release separate stand-alone editions of exclusive titles (Aerosmith, Metallica...). Rock Band is about downloads (track packs, full albums..). The best part is with RB2 is that if you have RB1 you can import all those songs on RB2. if not you can buy a used copy at Gamestop, import it then return back to them and get your money back. An Internet connection is required though. ![]() My personal preference is for RB2 because I think it has better playability and I prefer their drum kit. I am not that good at actual drums so it's fun to play with or without the cymbals. I think GH is really on it's way out.... Completely copied RB1 to make World Tour. There not much left for innovation at this point, but at least I know I can get new content every week from RB! |

i personally like GH:WT better. as long as you're getting the drums as well. i find rock bands instruments have a really cheap feel to them. i play guitar as a hobby and think GH feels a lot better. also, you get the cybals with the GH:WT drums. you have to pay extra for them w/ rockband.

besides the actual amount of songs on each playlist, is there a preference, one game over another, based on the actual songs?

agreed, but let's say you like/know 65% of GH's songs vs 45% of RB (of the game disc songs, no DLC), is that enough to sway a decision, or would you still choose RB because of the gameplay?

Definitely, especially if you plan on doing a lot on vocals (by far the biggest gameplay strike against GH)

I have been going through this for over a year. I wanted to pick up one of the games and everything pointed to Rock Band. I really didnt want to store the drum set in the house and I got a great deal on GH so I went that route.
Seemed like a can;t lose either way. I ended up getting in o nthe deal for GH, GH WT, the old guitar and the new one for $95 shipped. Figured why not. |

Rockband 2, I just picked up the cymbol kit for the drums (29.99) and they are built solid. We rented GHWT and finished it in a few days of play (medium). We have yet to finish RB2 but getting there. The Guitar in RB2 has been made to be harder, and I do find it more challenging than before. The ability to use the songs from RB ($5.00) makes it all the more better. With any GH you have to put in that particular game to play the music (I.E. L.O.R, WT, or Aerosmith). With RB2 that added a feature to see the difficulty of the song before you select it while playing and you can change the way the music is listed alphabetically, by genre, difficulty, or band. My vote would be RB2, I will eventually get GHWT when they drop the price way down.

Get them that stupid game I used to see kids playing on in arcades...where you had to step on the correct coloured squares to whatever song was playing on the screen. I used to mock them but secretly I was jealous of their dexterity.

Even songs I know in GH:WT are just not fun to play. The Tool songs, whether you like Tool or not, are just terrible choices for the game (as an example).

Definitely Rock Band 2. It has far more content available, especially since you can use Rock Band 1 songs as well, and it has better overall balance than RB:WT.
Rock Band's developer, Harmonix, is the original creator and developer of Guitar Hero 1 & 2, and it's development team is largely comprised of actual musicians. Guitar Hero:World Tour is developed by Neversoft, developer of the long running but recycled Tony Hawk series. You do the math on that one. Go with Rock Band 2. |
