Default DC animations: Justice League: Doom (2012)

Warner Brothers Animation Announces Justice League: Doom As Their Next Project!

Quote:
DC's next animated film will be a Justice League movie, loosely based on Mark Waid's Tower of Babel
Warner Brothers Animation announced its next animated film that will come after Green Lantern: Emerald Knights and Batman: Year One. Justice League: Doom will be released in 2012 and will be the last work of the late Dwayne McDuffie. It will be loosely based on Mark Waid's JLA story The Tower of Babel
Quote:
Tower of Babel centers on the perceived betrayal of the Justice League by Batman, whose secret files detailing the weaknesses of his colleagues fall into the hands of Ra’s al Ghul. He uses the information to incapacitate the League while distracting Batman with the theft of the bodies of Thomas and Martha Wayne. The revelation that the Dark Knight had devises contingency plans to defeat each of his teammates naturally creates friction, leading the JLA to consider expelling him from their ranks.
Got to say I'm really looking forward to this and hopefully it comes out early 2012 which is still a way's away though. Really happy there adapting one of Dwayne's last works.

I would imagine they wait to delay it for a possible JLA theatrical movie. Look at how the animated Thor project did not get released until just before the theatrical movie. The Tower of Babel storyline is a decent choice.

As long as it has an action figure and a combo pack, I'll get it for sure.

I don't think they would delay the movie for a possible live action LJA movie as Thor was always meant to be a tie in movie and they delayed it to release closer to the movie. This Justice League movie was always going to come out weather they have a live action JLA movie or not. The only tie in movie's DC has done are Batman: Gotham Knight and Green Lantern: Emerald Knights.

Sounds interesting. These DC Universe movies have been rather hit and miss so I will be renting first to see if its one of the good ones.

They aren't going to delay it. If you think that, you may as well think Batman: Year One is going to be delayed to be released alongside Dark Knight Rises. There are times, like Gotham Knight and Emerald Knights (as detective mentioned above), that the animation lines up with films, but those decisions were made a long time before they were actually greenlit. For the most part, DC Animation is a separate entity.

The Tower of Babel comic book was great, so I expect this to be pretty damn good.

Meh. Another Batman focused one. So sick of Batman and Superman getting all the Animation love.

Especially when the Wonder Woman and Green Lantern films were way better.

Outside of groups that feature one of either Batman or Superman, I doubt we see any more stories that focus on less popular DC characters made into direct-to-video animation.

Hopefully they use Timmiverse animation and get the original cast back. Would love to see David Warner return as Ras, Tim Daly as Supes, Michael Rosanbaum as Flash, Kevin Conroy as Batman so yeah we'll see.

Is it possible that Alex Ross is not allowing D.C. to make animated films of his books?

Why would you ask it that way?

There are lots of cool DC universe stories that they haven't adapted... I'm sure they are trying to go for the ones they have the best idea of how to adapt first.

DC maintains rights to all of its stories... so there would be no way for Alex Ross to allow or disallow adaptations of any of his DC Super-hero work.

Wildstorm might have different contracts... but the traditional DC universe is work-for-hire stuff that always has the rights residing with DC.

Alan Moore hates movie adaptations... so you can bet he would have stopped Watchmen if he could.

You should see All Star Superman, it's one of the best. Green Lantern first flight was great, but I think All Star pulls ahead.

It is odd, the two movies I have with the Batman Superman pairing do center or hinge on the Batman character.

I own All-Star Superman. Didn't care much for it as some of the others, since I loathe Grant Morrison's work. But it was ok.

No, Alex Ross has no say over any work he has done for DC. Warner could fully exploit any DC comic he has done. He is definitely not the issue. Pure speculation, but his painted style would be horribly expensive to animate for 70-minutes unless you made it very cheap-looking. That is probably the factor stopping Kingdom Come from being made into an animated special.

The story would also be very hard to cut down to 70-minutes, and the themes are very mature. Warner's nominal target audience for DC animation films are 10-13 year-old boys, and they will only release PG-13 or below. The same problems occur for the other obvious DC comic to turn into a movie, Identity Crisis. Adult fans only get marginal consideration in the calculation, even though the average comic book fan is now in their late 20s.
