Default Thunderbirds Are Go! coming 2015

Quote:
The UK’s ITV Studios is teaming with New Zealand-based Pukeko Pictures and Weta Workshop to co-produce Thunderbirds Are Go!, an update of the classic kids series that debuted in 1965. Twenty-six half hours have been ordered for air on ITV and CITV in the UK in 2015. The original Thunderbirds was created by Gerry Anderson, who passed away in December. Although it aired for just two seasons on ITV in the 60s, it became an international sensation. In syndication, the high-tech tales of adventurers rocketing around the world to fight evil-doers became a staple of Saturday morning and weekday afternoon programming in the U.S. The series also spawned feature films and inspired South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker’s Team America: World Police.

The new series will be produced using a unique mix of CGI animation and live-action model sets while also paying tribute to the legacy of model locations from Anderson’s original. Thunderbirds Are Go! will see the return of the five brave Tracy brothers as they pilot their incredible vehicles into impossible rescues across the globe. Estelle Hughes is exec producing for ITV Studios, Giles Ridge for ITV Studios Global Entertainment and Richard Taylor and Andrew Smith for Pukeko Pictures. Rob Hoegee (Generator Rex, Slugterra) is head writer. ITV’s Denise O Donoghue said today, “Thunderbirds is a highly respected brand that continues to hold recognition around the world. This cult series is often credited as changing the history of animation and action-adventure, and we look forward to taking the show to another level while retaining the much-loved heritage that has endured over the past fifty years.” ITVSGE will handle worldwide rights for the new series.

I am so happy to see that this is happening, but in the same breath hope they don't mess up what Gerry Anderson created.

Ditto. Very pleased to see Weta involved in this, the mixture of CGI and model sets sounds interesting and I have a confidence in them that they can create something worthwhile and respectful out of it.

I also hope they don't make the same mistake that the 2004 films did and they keep the ships looking the same. They are iconic and one of the reasons why the show is so fondly remembered. Of course, the film had many, many more problems than this - and they weren't far off the original designs - but still, it was one aspect that they didn't have to muck up.

The '04 movie started out as what was going to be America's answer to the "future" of "groundbreaking CGI virtual actors" of Final Fantasy:Spirits Within.
Er, need I mention, this would be back before the FF:TSW movie came out, and people in the movie industry thought it would change the world.

One big spectacular disilluisionment and a few years of development heck later, the '04 movie producers pretty much sold off the project for a quick and more affordable live-action kids' film in the hope of keeping the retro brand alive.
That, at least, it did. (Had nieces/nephews who had never heard of the show, but after seeing a rental, now wanted to see more of Lady Penelope, just from the Austin-Powers-ish live-action spin.)

Here, looks like they dug the "CGI puppets" out of the old memo, and giving it another try now that cooler heads prevail, but....it's still not that interesting a show. At least they're not doing that Power Rangers version from the 90's.

Default Cast Update: Rosamund Pike Joins voice cast.

Rosamund Pike will be voicing Lady Penelope.

Quote:
Rosamund Pike will voice International Rescue agent Lady Penelope in the upcoming re-invention of classic kids series Thunderbirds Are Go! The UK’s ITV Studios is teaming with New Zealand-based Pukeko Pictures and Weta Workshop to co-produce the update of the series that was created by Gerry and Sylivia Anderson in 1965. Pike, who’s starring with Ben Affleck in David Fincher’s adaptation of Gone Girl and coming off roles in The World’s End and Jack Reacher, will be heard alongside original cast member David Graham who is reprising his role as chauffeur and International Rescue agent Parker. The new series of 26 half-hours will debut on ITV in 2015 using a mix of CGI animation and live-action miniature sets. Also joining as the five brave Tracy brothers, who rocket around the world fighting evil-doers, are Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Rasmus Hardiker and David Menkin (the former two are doubling up on roles).

Although it aired for just two seasons on ITV in the 1960s, Thunderbirds Are Go! became an international sensation and a staple of Saturday morning and weekday afternoon programming in the U.S. The series also spawned feature films and inspired South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker’s Team America: World Police.

Executive producing the new take is Estelle Hughes for ITV Studios; Giles Ridge for ITV Studios Global Entertainment, which is handling international distribution; and Richard Taylor and Andrew Smith for Pukeko Pictures. Rob Hoegee (Slugterra, Generator Rex) is head writer and series director is David Scott (LEGO Star Wars). Pike is repped by the UK’s United Agents.

It's been picked up for a Second Season already too. Read about it a few days ago on a local news website.

Quote:
Thunderbirds are go, again, with CITV commissioning another 26 episodes of the remake of the 1960s kitsch classic.

Wellington's Weta Workshop and Pukeko Pictures, along with one of Britain's biggest production companies, ITV Studios, will again work together on the show.

The announcement of the second season of the new-generation Thunderbirds series came before the first season even premiered on network television.

The first season premiered at the MIP Junior Television Industry Conference in Cannes in October.

The remake reinvents the secretive International Rescue team using computer-generated imagery that echoes the awkward puppetry the 1965 original was known and loved for.

"We are very excited to announce a second series of Thunderbirds Are Go has been commissioned for CITV," Pukeko Pictures chief executive Andrew Smith said.

"Locally we are very much looking forward to bringing the adventures of the five Tracey brothers to audiences on the Nine Network and TVNZ early next year."

Shouldn't this be in the UK sub-forum? It's an ITV show.

So are all the other UK shows though. I mean you could say that about most UK shows.

No big deal though.

Did find that strange. I know most UK shows don't make it to the US but that can be said for every country. The forum is pretty much dead except for a few of the very popular shows.
