Today I picked up an iPhone 3G for my wife for Christmas. I'm planning to go ahead and load some music and photos and what not on there so there will be things to play with already when she opens it. What are some of the most essential or fun iPhone apps? Any other iPhone tips? I'm not much of a cell phone person myself.

Welcome to our enormous iphone/App playground
![]() I like Shazam which listens to any song you hear and identifies it. Last.fm for music (add your faves and it plays just them), Stanza ebook reader, ESPN Cameraman match game, Lux Touch (like Risk), Amazon, Ambiance (nature sounds), Yellow Pages (very useful), EVernote (organizer), The Weather Channel. |

Thanks.... I know the app store is probably pretty huge... and I will have a limited time to be able to play with it in secret before I wrap it up for her.... so I wanted to see what some others have really enjoyed.

Thanks...... I knew there was a thread already but I could not find it. The music one looks awesome in the commercial.. and I am tempted just by the novelty of it... but I'm not sure how much practical use it would get. |

Yeah, I would go through the app store. You can read about what the program is and read reviews. But I take reviews on there lightly. Some people give it a bad rep just because of one reason or they say it crashes. Your supposed to restart the phone when you install a new app to prevent it from crashing. I've never had a problem. There are plenty of free ones and some you pay for that range from $0.99 to $9.99 etc. Just depends what games/time killing things your wife likes. I've gone through many apps cause I get bored of them easily LOL I've currently got "isports", "fring", "now playing", "drinks free", "live poker", "enigmo", and "fieldrunners". Just the last two I paid for. The others were free. The isports is of course a sports ticker app. Fring is for using IM like msn messenger, yahoo, etc, and you could use it for skype and stuff. Now playing is for movies. It can find your current location and list theatres near you. The movies have reviews and you can even play the movie preview. Some theatres have support where you can buy tix from the app also and pick them up at the theatre. Drinks free is a cool app that has over 5k different drink mixtures. Always helpful LOL Live poker is obviously a poker app, but it's online only. You don't play against the AI, but against real people who are playing it on their phone, facebook, or myspace. Enigmo is a challenging puzzle type of game. You got water that drips out of a container and you have to get it into a different container using certain tools or objects and such. Users can create and upload levels too. Sorry, it's not a good description but it's hard to explain LOL Fieldrunners is basically a tower game where you try to prevent enemies coming from a fortress to yours. They have a free app of the same principal, but I bought this one because I like it better. It's also supposed to have an update later for more levels and different towers.

I hadn't used it until last week when a song on the radio was bothering me that I didn't know who it was. The Yellow Pages app I use a few times a week, finding the store and dialing it right from the app.

LOL.... you're not an idiot. Most people assume that someone in a tech forum or a gaming forum just must be a guy; I'm guilty of that myself. Last edited by Uniquely; 12-24-2008 at 08:15 PM. |
