Default Lock-ups with Universal BDs

Yesterday I attempted to watch 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall' for the second time and tonight I attempted to watch 'Wanted' for the second time. Upon watching both BDs, they locked up about halfway through. When I restart my system or try to play the disc again, I get a message saying the the video is unplayable. I have a PS3 with up-to-date firmware. I've also been able to successfully watch my other BDs multiple times with no problems what-so-ever so I'm fairly positive that it isn't my system. From other posts on the forum I've noticed that others have had the same problem with these titles as well as 'The Incredible Hulk' and 'Hellboy 2', all of which are from Universal. Does anyone know why this may be happening or if there is a problem with Universal's BDs or even the PS3 for that matter? I'm getting really frustrated here and do not want to shell out more cash for new discs or even a new player for that matter.

I've had issues with uni titles as well. I think it comes down to the firmware on your bdp. I recently installed a new fw and haven't had any issues with my uni titles since.

I haven't had any problems with any Universal blurays and I have nearly all of them. I do believe it is a firmware problem. I play mine on my ps3 with no issues.

I would have to agree, it seems like all you need is a firmware update and then you should be good to go.

How do I download newer firmware for these titles then? When I go to system update it says that I have the latest firmware installed, and when I put the discs in I don't get prompted to update. Is there something I'm missing here?

I haven't heard of any issues with Forgetting Sarah Marshall, I just watched it not too long ago as well. I just now watched Burn After Reading which is a Universal title, with no problems, as well as Wanted, The Incredible Hulk and Mamma Mia!

Don't know what the issue could be...hope you get it resolved soon though!

I just tried playing it again from where I left off and got another 30 minutes through and then it locked up again. I'm wondering if there could be a problem with the laser on my player, do the Blu lasers get problems like standard ones do?

Like I said I can almost guarantee it's not your laser or the anything to do with your bdp. It's just a firmware issue. I had to deal with the freezeup/lockups for months before Samsuck issued a proper firmware update. You might just have to deal with it as well if your most current FW update doesn't resolve this issue. I noticed most of my freezeups were occurring with director's and unrated cuts of the film where the additional scenes were added to the movie. Like I said my most recent firmware update seems to have resolved these issues.
