It is a very big move in piracy of games as the Lite-On drive was thought unhackable and pretty much the last line of defence against this sort of piracy.

the way the 360 is hacked is that they open the 360, hook up the dvdrom drive to a PC and reflash the firmware of the DVDROM drive, then put it back into the 360 and play bootlegs.

basically, the CPU says to the DVDROM "are you an xbox 360 game?" and normally, with a bootleg, the DVDROM replies "no"

with the hacked firmware, the DVDROM says "lol, of course i am, you can trust me!"
