60gig PS3 and SACD - Blu-ray Forum

I am a SACD retard but i want to check it out because there is a NIN in SACD. Does the PS3 play SACD's or not? Is SACD basically a CD with uncompress music on it for is it something else?

Either that or SA, Can't remember... I have no such discs to check but I remember last week on the Playstation site, it listed the features of each of the PS3 versions as to what each would do and not do so it may be in there. Should also be in the owners manual.

yeah the owners manual is the first thing I checked and I never found it in there. But on this site in the "players" section it says that the PS3 does support SACD

I believe after one of the many PS3 firmware updates the SACD feauture of the PS3 does not work or work properly anymore. it did up untill the third or fourth update was released. There is something on the boards somewhere about this.

The models that are out now doesn't have that feature anymore, sony took it out to reduce cost. along with 2 usb ports and the card slots, if you want SACD you have to get the old 80gig model http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Me...372316&sr=8-10

The first generation PS3's play SACD. The new 40gig and 80gig models do not. Read A Guide to SACD. It has a sticky under Blu-ray music.

Look on your PS3. If it plays SACD it will literally say it next to the other formats, I think its on the side of the console.

My 80GB PS3 plays them!

You must have the old 80GB. The new 80GB does not play SACD. The other important thing to mention is that PS3 cannot output the the music in its native DSD format. It converts it to PCM and then sends it out. Some consider this a disadvantage.

Yeah, I have the Motorstorm bundle. Would you consider this to be a distinct disadvantage? I haven't heard both so I don't know the difference.

On a high-end system, you may be able to hear an advantage. Remember that there are people that spend several thousand dollars for a standard CD player (there is one for $60,000) for its superior sound quality.

Please read A Guide to SACD. The explanation is there. Outputting DSD is like bitstreaming in Blu-ray.

you won't be able to discern the difference...I guarantee it.The 60GB PS3 is a phenomenal piece of machinery...I wish more were able to experience it.
