I have The Third Man, Chungking Express, and The Man Who Fell To Earth all from amazon.com. I'm wondering if anyone has compared the Canadian to US versions of these Criterions and if the Canadian releases are violated in any way? In the future it would likely be cheaper to get them here in Canada with the exchange rate reality we have now.

Finally got it. I sent my DVD of it to Criterion for the exchange program, and it finally came in today. I havn't looked at the whole thing, but from the clips I've seen, it looks and sounds fantastic.

If you have the DVD of it already, I suggest just sending it to them with the $25 dollar check and exchanging it for the Blu-Ray disc. You still have to keep the packaging, but it's worth it.

They'll be the exact same discs as the US. Not even packaging will change.

That's good to hear. I just pre-ordered El Norte from amazon.ca. It's cheaper than amazon.com with the new exchange reality.

I don't think there are any specific Canadian versions. Merely a domestic distribution of the same package as sold in the US.

The ones I got from Amazon.ca (The Third Man and The Man Who Fell to Earth) are both region A.

Word to the wise, "Do not buy THE THIRD MAN solely for PQ/AQ". This is one of my favorite movies of all time the supplements alone make it worth the upgrade. As for the PQ its not there when you compare it to CASABLANCA. Overall if your into upgrading DVDs as I am, then this is an absolute must. Seriously, maybe the best movie even and its amazing it was ever made even with all they had to go through.

well if you're like me and own almost zero movies on DVD....

these classic titles are no-brainers to add to my collection.

You also have to remember that Criterion titles are 'niche' titles and most stores probably won't carry too many of them in stock. Box stores like Best Buy will have them to order, so ask if you don't see them on the shelf.
