Default Your goal with Blu-ray?

I'm just wondering what those who buy BD buy them for.

I, personally, have only upgraded a movie when I only had a VHS version or that the DVD was terrible.

Some people only buy movies they didn't own before and have never seen.

Some people's goal is just upgrade their DVD collection to BD and just buying the odd BD they don't know of here and there, when previously unavailable on BD.

I have well over 200 double dips. I'd like to get a truck & dump all my DVDs at BlockBuster or something.

I'll hold off on some tv on BD sets I already own on DVD mainly because of cost & I like my tv collection.

I'm restarting my whole collection from scratch, I sold all of my DVD movies last year (250 +) to dedicate it to Blu-ray! The only problem is that money not as abound (as for most folks) as it has been a rough year, but things will get better!

In my retarded mind, Blu-ray is the only packaged media now. I will never buy DVD again and I am not interested in downloads at all. It's been more than 2 years since I've purchased a DVD. DVD is obsolete.

I am buying Blu-ray to replace my DVD collection and to purchase new movie releases. However, the Blu-ray disk must include lossless audio and good video quality.

I only upgrade my DVD's if they either have a really amazing transfer/upgrade and/or are one of my more favorite movies. Otherwise I've just been pretty much buying BD that I've never owned before. Now I'd love to completely upgrade all my DVD's but I'd blow through a whole chunk of cash in doing so, and I'd rather spend that money on other things.

I'm with you... exactly. I just can't bring myself to throw good money away by trying to replace all of my DVDs. I will primarily buy only BDs of movies I do not own, or had on VHS. I have replaced only 2 DVDs with their Hi-Def versions.

1.) Batman Begins. Because it's Batman Begins.
2.) The Lost Boys. Bad DVD picture quality.

...and my favorite James Bond movie on DVD will be replaced by the BD version when it's released. The Man With The Golden Gun.

I will only double dip if it's a movie I really love. I buy Blu Ray because of it's quality and it's the next format after DVD, so I might as well get started early.

Sort of the same with me...if I really really like the movie...or if it looks amazingly good on blu..I will replace it. I have wayyy too many movies to replace all of them. I will be a tad picky.

Replace my existing DVD collection while DVD's are still worth money. In 3-5 years, DVD's will probably either be $5-10 at Wal-Mart or discontinued.

Same here. Once I was old enough to have a job, I started buying more and more DVD's. But by that time, DVD had already been around for quite a few years. With Blu-Ray, I've caught it during its early years so now I'm taking advantage of it. Yes, I'm re-buying my old DVD movies on BD now, but I'm also buying some movies I never cared for on DVD now on BD.

My goal is a bit different.

First reason:
Picture quality on some SDVD look decent on HDTV...so I don't bother upgrading to blu. Most of thses are 1:85.1 movies because I dont have to bother with the black bars being too bright (almost grey). The movies fills up the screen so I can just customise my settings to get deep blacks and rich colours.

Second reason:
I upgrade the SDVD movies that I own that have a 2:35.1 ratio because their black bars can be too bright (almost grey, kinda distracting) so I buy them on blu to get deeper black bars as well as to upgrade the picture quality. Most of these are usually action movies or (the other reason) musicals to get the uncompressed sound.

Overall for those reasons I make exceptions on movies that NEED to be watched on Blu-ray ONLY.

I started out with just buying Blu-rays that I didn't already own on dvd but lately I've been buying blu's that I have on dvd, so ya I do a bit of both. I think the only dvds that I wont replace will be tv shows but then again Dexter would look nice in HD.
