Default Do you watch/care about supplements?

Over the past few months I've seen myself growing apart from bonus features on releases.

Before I used to say that if there was a collector's edition available, I would get it even if I mostly didn't end up watching the supplements.

I just wonder if some people are like me and don't really care that much anymore.
Don't get me wrong, some of the supplements found on some discs are truly awesome and give real insight to a movie from its genesis to its release. But to be honest, sometimes, I just don't bother.

Thoughts?

The only movies I have ever watched special features on are Batman Begins and Serenity. I could care less about this stuff no matter how interesting it may be. I dont have the time to watch all the movies I want to so I def dont have time to mess with special features.

For whatever reason I never seem to care about extras. Somehow, I feel the price of the disc includes those items and charges me for them. Kind of like buying a car and having to get the navigation system even though you dont want it.

Well if you notice, Blu-rays that have no special features dont cost any less.

I rarely care about extras, unless it's something that I've seen recommended, like the making of documentaries on Blade Runner, Halloween, etc. I don't really care about the psychology of Batman or whatever.

I love watching the extras on BD, thos on TDK were very well made.

It's also very true that expecting Hollywood to lower the prices on BD without any extras is dreaming. They won't do it. They will gladly remove the extras of everyone complaint about them but lower the prices, yeah right!

It has been the opposite for me. I didn't use to check out the special features but started doing so occasionally so I could mention them in user reviews. Plus, I wanted to check out some of the new stuff they're were doing. Anyway, I discovered that the extras are sometimes pretty interesting so I've been checking them out more and more. Another thing that caught me by surprise is how excited some of the directors over the movie and some of the extras. You can tell they really love their work and that in a way made me appreciate some of the films even more. I don't factor in extras when deciding to purchase movies though.

I'm exactly like you, OP. When DVD first hit the scene, I was all over those features! I was finally able to see all of those behind-the-scenes docs I've always wanted to. These days, with BD, I find myself once again looking at the movie, like in my old VHS days. I think it's because watching a movie on Blu is like seeing it for the first time... again. I can't tell you how many times I've watched the few Blus I have over my hundreds of DVDs available. It's not that I don't wanna watch my old favorites, but my "new" favorites look and sound so much better! I'll still watch the extras, but I don't see myself running out for a "Collector's Edition" of any Blu-ray unless the picture or sound quality has been improved in some way. With BD, it's about the movie. Besides, they're too expensive to double-dip. The wife would kill me!

People are curious and want to discuss this stuff. If they werent here when the other threads were made and they cant easily find them, why not make their own?

You have never discussed the same topic repeatedly in different circles of people?

I like supplements like the director and producer commenting on the history of the film: casting choices, financial decisions, locations used, and how the original idea was derived. I do not watch sections where they discuss or show how the FX are made, it just takes the "magic" form the movie viewing process.

I watch them sometimes, it depends on the features. But they're nice to have.

Default I do.

If I really enjoy the film I watch the extras, if nothing else I watch the deleted scenes.

I don't generally care about them, although sometimes depending on the movie they are a nice bonus feature that I may watch after I finish the movie. However, it doesn't define if I buy a title or not. I'd honestly take a cheaper version with nothing else added over a more expensive one with some extras.
