First and foremost, what is your absolute budget? This is critical in determining what to get. Next, is there any particular features you want a new receiver to support? HD Audio? XM Radio? HD Radio? Wireless? iPod? The minimum you want in a receiver now-a-days is HDMI switching. Pass-through usually only offers video and no audio over HDMI.

I do not think you will be able to (or want to) use your existing speakers with a receiver.

Most HTiB's don't provide the best speakers for the money. There have been many posts where for a little more (couple hundred dollars), you can get a really nice entry level system.

^^ Lou is correct here, you want to find a budget, your existing speakers may have a lower ohms then your receiver can support and you could end up working that reciever to death.

On another note, if you want a Sony reciever that matches the likes of the Onkyo or Yamaha you have listed you need to be looking at the Sony 920. Plus you need to listen to each of these recievers, they all have their own sound.

I agree with callas01 on listening to them. Personally, I liked the sound of the Denon's over the Onkyo's in my price range and my speakers.

You are best off trying to find a place that sells what you are looking at and listening to your options. Your ears may surprise you.
