Default Favourite STAR TREK feature film

Most of us have our favourites. Some even have different versions of the film too.
Ranking? Most favorite and least favorite of the TOS, TNG, and Kelvin Timeline films?

I love each of the Original Crew films (even the fifth one) and the first two TNG films. The last two TNG are pretty good even if they just feel like longer episodes of the show. The three new Treks are cinematic turds.

Like watching all of them, but the original crew is my favorite. VI is one like the most. Always remember watching the original show with my Dad when I was a kid.

Wrath of Khan is the most rewatchable, followed by Voyage Home and Undiscovered Country (which I think is a little overrated these days but still great).

Wrath will always win these polls.

I don't agree that Undiscovered is overrated. I think it is a close 2nd to Wrath.

Actually as far as movie series goes, I think ST has done very well. Only The Final Frontier and Motion Picture are an acquired taste.

I would put ST(2009) in my top 3, I think. I used to love First Contact but it really isn't as good as it could have been... disappoints me every time.

Went with Wrath Of Khan but I like '09, and Voyage Home just as much. TMP gets honorable mention, mostly for Nostalgic reasons.

The Motion Picture.

a great adventure.

the only Trek I struggle to finish is Generations. It really is awful after the Nexus.

In the past, I would have voted on the 2009 reboot. Although I admire a lot of aspects about it (especially the gut-wrenching opening scene), I'm leaning towards Wrath of Khan these days. Iconic, well-written, thematically deep, and it doesn't beat you over the head with style the way Abrams does.

Close runner-ups for me are The Undiscovered Country and The Voyage Home.

Personal ranks:
[Show spoiler]
  1. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (either cut, don't have a preference)
  2. Star Trek (2009)
  3. Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (home video cuts preferred)
  4. Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
  5. Star Trek: Into Darkness
  6. Star Trek: First Contact
  7. Star Trek III: The Search for Spock
  8. Star Trek: Beyond
  9. Star Trek: Generations
  10. Star Trek: Insurrection
  11. Star Trek: Nemesis
  12. Star Trek V: The Final Frontier
  13. Star Trek: The Motion Picture (Director's Cut preferred)
  1. Star Trek: The Next Generation
  2. Star Trek (Original)
  3. Star Trek: Voyager
  4. Star Trek: Animated Series
  5. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Have not seen Discovery yet. Not sure if I'm missing out on anything or not.

2009 Star Trek. The most entertaining and the one with the best production values.

Lightbulb RedSabbath's Federation Geekdom Arises!

I feel like talking some Trek. This thread seems as good as place as any, but first a repost of mine related to the subject:

***Just Ordered:

Just Watched:

Spent most of my weekend rewatching/skimming-through the original 10 films of the Star Trek franchise (again). As a life long Trek fan (though I've never "dressed up" or went to a convention), to me there is no complete disaster of a Star Trek film (yes, I think V: The Final Frontier is a good film, especially compared to the first or reboot's Into Darkness). While I only own the complete series' of TOS & TAS, I tend to like these re-edited two-parters of The Next Generation & Unification is the last on my wish list.

As for the Stardate Collection, yes each of these are still the 2009 masters with the uninspiring Trek Crest on white background menus, but recently I compared it's "Khan" to the recently remastered 50th Anniversary Khan Directors Cut, and while 50 looks better, it really doesn't look better by much. Sure, one day these will hit the 4K train, and maybe that will inspire me to get on board, but anyone still waiting on Trek should still trust these '09 versions. Each has tons of special features, on most really great and rewatchable. The two bonus discs had some great exclusive content, especially "The Captain's Summit" with the five actors discussing Trek Life (and other subjects) for an hour, very entertaining. Also, on the "Evolutions" disc is some more bonuses, including footage from the now defunct "ST:The Experience" that was located in Las Vegas that I was lucky enough to visit way back in July of 2001. In fact, looking back at the photos I took, most of the exact same actors I met were still working there on the videos showing of it's last day closing. Sorta sad it doesn't exist anymore, but will always have this footage, including two shorts on the two different "rides" the Experience featured (think of the bonus of "Back To The Future:The Ride" that it's box set included). Weird though, while it shows you all the "live" footage, the pre-recorded footage of The Borg Queen, Riker, The Doctor, and LaForge has been edited out of it, maybe due to not wanted to pay the actors twice (?). Anyway, nice set, especially if you never bought the individual releases, and reminds you that Trek, the original mid 60's thru early 00's Trek, will always be the best.***

As for the ranking of the movies, I'd like to give that a try, but I should note that the original cast will always be my favorite. In fact, no man is more important to Star Trek, or even Sci-Fi in general, than William Shatner. He just was/is one of a kind and in his 30's thru 50's portrayed the character to the point of legend. Too much?!!? Yeah, probably. Anyway, here's ole RedSabb's ranking.

01) The Wrath Of Khan
02) The Voyage Home
03) The Search For Spock
04) The Undiscovered Country
05) The Final Frontier
06) Generations
07) First Contact
08) The Motion Picture
09) Nemesis
10) Insurrection
11) Star Trek (2009)
12) Beyond
13) Into Darkness

You may notice a trend, which is that the original cast is on top while the remakes are on the bottom. Even though I can honestly say there is NO Star Trek movie without some entertaining value, I feel the reboot, while decent, seems more to me like a parody than a successful remake. Sometimes I watch say "Beyond" and feel like it's an SNL sketch. Anyway, I'd like to continue the ST conversation, and hoping some of this inspires you to "engage".

I know I know, but what can you say? Those two films have iconic parts that most people remember and cherish. Hell, Part III gets up there alone for Shatner tripping over his chair and saying "You Klingon b*stards....you killed my son!". Honestly though, ask a moderate fan their favorite and a lot will say "Which one had the whales?". Hard to believe that in "Khan", Shat and Monty NEVER appear together in the same room in the entire film, but it's usually the fan favorite! Realistically, II and IV are the best, but look at my list and you'll see others very closely behind.
