Default SVS PB12-Plus or SuperCube I

I recently purchased a Definitive Technologies SuperCube I sub. However, I still have a little over 3 weeks to return it if I'm not completely satisfied with it.

Due to size limitations (WAF) and budget, what do you think about returning the SuperCube and purchasing the SVS PB12-Plus?

http://www.svsound.com/products-sub-box-newpb12plus.cfm

Anyone hear these before?

I listen mostly to movies (80%) and music (20%). I do prefer accurate bass.

Comments? Suggestions?

Thanks!

never heard the svs, but i have heard the supercube, and the supercube I is superb. for the size of that little thing, it puts extreme bass and to me, is extremely accurate for its price.

had i heard the svs sub before, id be able to give better insight on its capabilities. but i would most definitely keep the supercube. but if you've already purchased it and are just now putting up this post about possibly returning to buy other subs, i take it there's something you dont care for about the def tech.....

My dad has a SuperCube II... check my HT gallery for pics.... and I would have to say go with the Supercube, although I haven't heard a SVS. I would choose HSU over SVS...

I personally like SVS wayyy more. A cylinder version is better value if you don't mind the hugeness.

I personally have an SVS. I've heard other comparisons, and they blow everything out of the water until your ready to spend several grand on Velodynes.

I own the SB12-Plus and its a great subwoofer. I would've gotten the PB-13 Ultra but I don't wanna get evicted from my apartment building
The sb12 does quite a job filling my fairly large living room with solid bass. I've never audiotioned the supercube so I cannot compare. Here's a pic of my sb12plus if you'd like to take a closer look.

edit: I've just noticed you were talking about the PB12-Plus (not the sb12-plus). Anyway, I think that would be a solid performer.

IMO the SVS will out perform the Supercube. It will offer more headroom, and accurate bass reproduction. With proper calibration, and placement the SVS will enhance your movie experience.

I emailed SVS and received the following response:

Quote:
Despite their impressive listed specs, Definitive Technology subs tend to forsake actual deep bass output for lots of midbass SPL. It can be impressive compared to cheaper small subs, and is a frequent concession made for small size, but SVS is in a whole other league as far as deep, clean, flat bass is concerned. The new PB12-Plus would likely add a whole octave of clean extension to the SuperCube, as well as being cleaner, flatter, more dynamic, and far more accurate overall. Simple physics dictates that such a tiny reflex cube is at a big disadvantage compared to a large, properly ported and driven sub like the Plus. You'd be floored by the difference, no doubt. The same would apply for the PC12-Plus, in case a cylinder would fit better in that corner.

A system anchored by the Plus and calibrated with MultEQ XT is an amazing thing to behold. I'd recommend trying it out at home using our 45-day trial, that way you really get the feel for what bass is supposed to sound like in your room.
Their reply makes a lot of sense to me, so I'm going to take the SuperCube back and pull the trigger on the SVS PB12-Plus. I'll have to use my old sub until my SVS arrives.

Excellent choice. SVS is a top notch company. The customer service rocks too. My sub died once, and the sent me the info on what fuse I needed, and when that didn't work, they sent me a whole new amp to replace mine.

I have an SVS PB13 Ultra. It is amazing. Deep clean sound. I am sure the PB12 would be very impressive as well. I assure you, that when you get your SVS, you will not send it back.

Just curious- the PB12 Plus shows as discontinued/out of stock. How are you getting one of these and, if I may ask, how much are you paying for it?

Nice looking sub- I'm sure you'll be very happy with it.

If possible, you might want to wait until after the CES show in Las Vegas next week. SVS is going to be showing off a brand new sub line that is supposed to be next generation and more compact. You could also take advantage of their 45 day trial now and trade out before the trial period is up.

Ah I was looking at their old model. Man, that's beautiful. Also... WAY out of my price range.

From looking at your HT gallery, the SB12-Plus might do really well for you. The price jumps down to $699 and includes free shipping.

Thumbs up I would rather return it and get two of these for the same price range

http://www.outlawaudio.com/products/lfmEX.html

To me I know everyone has their favorite sub but for me the best systems I've listened to always seem to have anywhere from 2-4 subs not just one. So for the price and quality I would rather have two of the Outlaw Audio subs. I added one to my system that already had a 15" sub and I am so much more happy with two.
