Thumbs down Disappointed with BD prices in NYC

Just back from the New Years party in NYC. Great trip overall but very disappointed with the prices of BDs in most stores. Virgin on Times Square was a complete waste of time with average prices over $30. BDs seemed to be the only item not in sale in that store. Circuit City wasn't much better. The best of a bad bunch was Best Buy. Got a couple of good deals (relative) but overall I was disappointed in the prices offered in most stores. Seemed like there was no real push to sell some movies over the Christmas/New Year period.

I ended up buying around 10 movies but should probably have spend my money with amazon.

Aren't street retailers in danger of going out of business since they do not offer the same deals as online stores?

No, because there are always people who don't know about online stores or just don't like buying from online. I didn't know about Amazon my entire life until Blu-ray, and even then, that took me 2 months.

Correct and some people still don't trust Credit/debit cards that they use checks.
Identity theft deters some from buying online & there's something to be said about instant gradification on a purchase to enjoy immediately.

High prices shouldn't be a surprise and should be the norm for blu-ray.

We need to remember that blu-ray is an "Elite" product for those who are superior and part of the "blu bloods." The high pricing is there to keep peasants from enjoying the elite format made for the upper crust.

No but we did go to "The View" restaurant and that was a complete rip off.

like he said plenty of people buy from online stores and save $3-10 per movie and some of us just don't care and buy from bestbuy (me) lol... if your upset about the prices bargin hunt because you can find the movies for like $2-7 more for the dvd counterpart...

Once you are in the time square area everything is twice the price that you would pay for it normally....to really enjoy NY head to the outer boroughs Queens,Bklyn,Bronx..you will fine the deals and enjoy the different ethnic backgrounds...

You missed Disc O Rama. Probably the best deal you're going to get.

Otherwise, I never buy anything retail. I don't think that's going to change no matter where you go.

Virgin has always been overpriced. They're just as bad as FYE but have a much bigger collection of course.
