Thumbs down Zune 30gb lockup

I turned on my 30gb zune this morning, and it froze on the loading screen. It wouldn't respond to any of the reset button combinations, so a quick search on the net was in order. It turns out that this seems to be a widespread problem that started occurring today. So if any of you planned on pumping some New Year's Eve tunes on your 30's, you may want to hold off. Looks like its y2k only a few years late

I was just reading about this. Crazy glitch with the newest firmware or something. Sucks for those with this model.

Yeah, there was a thread that just got locked in the portable music section. Basically, I think that those that are affected (like me) will be perfectly fine tomorrow once the New Year comes.

Honestly, this is the first problem I've had with this device. Adding new features, games and a new GUI have all been really nice additions to something that I got for about 3 bucks a gig last year. I would still recommend the Zune if someone asks about a player.

same here, first problem I have had with my Zune and I got it for $80 refurbished about two years ago and it has worked like a charm! I'm almost kind of hoping that there will be no fix for it and Microsoft sends out a voucher for $150 credit toward a new one so I can get a 120gb model

Apparently it's the odd year- being that it's one day and one second longer, and the fact that it started supposedly exactly at midnight this morning.

Default Y2K8 Zune quirk really a Freescale bug?

http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/03/y...freescale-bug/

Quote:
Well, here's an interesting twist to this story. That mysterious and completely enraging "Zune bug" that cropped up on the final day of 2008 may not have been restricted to Microsoft PMPs. A much smaller cadre of Toshiba Gigabeat users reportedly experienced similar issues, and some even noted that the whole "discharge and re-date" rigmarole fixed their unit right up as well. Upon further investigation, it seems that the issue may actually reside in the Freescale MC13783 processor, which -- coincidentally enough -- is used in the Zune 30 and a few of Toshiba's alternatives. We suppose it's a little late to ask, but did any non-Zune owners experience similar issues just prior to the dawn of '09? Or were you too busy, um, partying like it was 1999?
