Default dual hsu uls15's or one klipsch rt12d

ok so im looking to upgrade my sub from a polk psw1000 which im very disapointed with to either dual hsu uls 15's or a klipsch rt12d. The guy at my local ht store highly recomended the klipsch, i mentoned the hsu and said to him that i wanted a dual sub setup but he said for the money the klipsch was the best choice. I suspect that he did not recomend hsu because they do not sell the subs, so i pose the question to the form. What is the better choice

The salesman wants you to buy Klipsch because there is more commision for him. The decision is an easy one:
  1. Hsu is a specialty subwoofer compnay. Their subwoofers are highly rated and reasonably priced because they are a factory-direct company.
  2. Two subwoofers (even two smaller ones) are always preferred to one super large one. Two subwoofers will give you more flexibilty to place them in the room and defeat the problems associated with standing waves.
Please read A Guide to Subwoofers (Part II): Standing Waves & Room Modes. It helps you understand the benefits of two subwoofers over one and how to optimally place them in your room.

Buy the two Hsu subs without hesitation.

Reality Check! How big is your room/home theater? Dual 15" 93 pound subs sounds like complete overkill for a system centered around a 40" LCD. I was expecting a huge room with a projector, 120" screen and 3/4 rows of seats.

If you just got to have 2 subs - buy another Polk PSW1000.

I think you are just shopping specs. The Polk goes down to 20hz but you want a sub that goes down only another 5hz (15hz). Get a test disc and see if your sub and your ears can produce or hear a 15 or 20hz cycle. You may find that you can not even hear those frequencies anyway.

the polk actually drops out at about 30hz, there are many instances in movies where i notice this, the end scene in kung fu panda for example where jack black says skadoosh, there practicall no bass. the scene in transformers where the transformer flys over the womans head, there is also a bass dropout there

Not even close, HSU (especially duals) will likely beat anything Klipsch has to offer. My guess is that the person you spoke to either:

a) Couldn't make comission off of HSU since they are factory direct -or-
b) had never even heard of HSU so they didn't recommend them.

Get the dual subs. I like having 2. It gives me more room coverage. Just a better overall sound. Everyone knows polk subs are not the best and I think the other guy is going by specs lol. How does your bass drop sound know in that transformers scene with ironhide. My house shakes on that scene. I love it.

NEITHER

What is your budget?

For the price of two, you could get a Def Tech Trinity, a Focal Electra, or a meadowlark Blackbird......

There are so many capable subwoofers in that price range, not sure why you'd get 2 of the HSUs and have to deal with proper placement/issues etc.

Sounds like you need some room treatments and better dampening/isolation

All of the three subs you mention are very good, but a single one of them is not going to outperform two HSU subs in a real rooms. Two subs are always better than one, especially if they are two competent subs as the HSU's are.

Hell, at that much money, you'd be better off getting a pair of these or this. They both would be more output than those subs. The first pair I linked you to are based on the 13 Av.2 subwoofer, eD's best 12" driver. The A7-900 has probably the loudest and deepest output of any other HT sub out there. You could also ask eD about their custom Av.2 based 18" drivers and a modified A7-900 to go along with it. Don't flame me for recommending eD here by the way!
