Default PS3 Scare

Today my PS3 (Have had it since launch), stopped reading ps3 discs. However, when I called Sony they told me to unplug everything and my PS3 began to read everything again. Has this happened to anyone or does anyone know if it will just break in the future?

What did you unplug - internet, power, HDMI?

Weird....that it worked.

I unplugged every cord, even the ones connecting to the TV.

Weird indeed. Can't think of a logical reason why it worked. But what matters is that it worked.
I've had my 60 GB PS3 for a year and a half and it's still working fine. Let us cross fingers

This happened to me once. I did just as you did, and it worked....for about a month and a half, then it did it again. The second time I wasn't so lucky. I had to send it in to get a new laser, or drive or something. I'm not exactly sure. All I know is that I got it back a week and a half later (same one I sent it) and now it works. I only have 90 days for it to mess up again before I will have to shell out $150. Oh, did I fail to mention that the warranty is only good for 1 year...with proof of purchase of course.

Had a similar problem - I think it's dust build up.

My PS3 was a bit dusty so I moved it to clean it - unplugged everything too! Afterwards it booted, but wouldn't read discs - BD or PS3 Games, even DVD's.

I tried placing it on it's edge - read this somewhere else, still no good. Returned it to it's normal position, wiped around the vents - re plugged everything in - works fine, has ever since. This happened about 2 months ago.

Scared the me though.

Yeah, me too. Hopefully mine continues to work well beyond what it seems the launch units are lasting.
