Default HELP!! Best center speaker for Onkyo TX-SR705 receiver??

I need suggestions and opinions on which center channel speaker would be the best with my Onkyo TX-SR705 receiver.

I have a $150 gift card for BestBuy so I would prefer buying from there. Below is a list of what my local BB has in stock along with their price.

This is Canadian pricing

1) Bose VCS-10 Centre Channel Speaker: $239.99

2) Infinity 2-Way Center Speaker (PC250): $199.95

3) JBL Dual 5" Center Channel Speaker (ES25C):$199.99

4) Klipsch Icon Centre Channel Speaker (VC-25)
: $219.99

5) Klipsch Synergy C2 Centre Channel Speaker: $277.99

6) Precision Acoustics 2-Way Center Channel Speaker (HD-C): $59.99

All help is appreciated!

This is a fair question .What ever fronts you have , you should match the center with the same make and if possible same model of your fronts for best results

I don't have front speakers yet. I had the impression that the center speaker was the first one to buy?

What order should I be buying my speakers?

it does not really matter what order you buy them in, the important thing is to get matching speakers for the fronts, so they they all have the same timbre.

If you are going to buy your center first, go and listen to the ones that you have listed above, decide which one that you like and buy it, just keep in mind that if you buy say a klipsch center speaker then you will need to buy klipsch front speakers from the same series so that the timbre matches and so on. , if you buy your fronts first then you will need to buy the matching center etc

And just to throw in my 2 cents as far as which you should buy first, I think you should invest in a pair of towers. They can give you a better sound field as well as a wider range of sound. Towers, then center.

I dont think you should be looking for a certain center that goes with that receiver. You should buy your mains and center first, which should match. Next go with your sub and surrounds and maybe rears later. front stage should be timbre matched.

I agree with both 100%....

I know what you are asking and you want to use your gift card to get things started.

What size room will the set-up be going into?

When I seen yours, I have been meaning to go check it out! and in no-way was I gonna buy 1. I'm very poor and cannot afford such things.

With that center, do anyone really need a subwoofer?

Take a look at PSB and Paradigm as well.

Buying speakers I would suggest buying them all at the same time. If you insist on buying the speakers at different time, this is the order I would do it in.

1. towers L&R first
2. center
3. bass and surrounds

Try actual home theater or specialty audio shops. They will probably give you a lot of good advice. A lot of them have a lot better speakers than the big box stores and you may not pay all that much more for them.

I probably would knock ot your first choice. Bose doesn't really sound all that great and you can get a bigger bang for your buck else where. I have not heared any thing about presision accoustics.

TIP: When testing speaker bring music you like and are familliar with, that way you know how it should sound

Since the center speaker is generally the least expensive I thought I use my gift card for that then save for the L&R fronts. The concencus seems to lean towards getting the L&F fronts first though. Will probably go in that direction.

The room I believe is 15'X10'

Thanks for the tips!

Yeah I've been hearing unflattering things about Bose speakers for home theatres. Presicion accoustics seem to be getting decent reviews for the price. I can't imagine someone who owns Klipsch's (for example) would be giving the same reviews upon comparing his speakers with Precision. Wouldn't want to chance it...

Looks like the fork in the road has taken me in a different direction. Onwards for the search of L&R fronts........

Another question before I get started...

How closely do my L&R fronts and center-channel have to match?

Is it as easy as just buying the same brand or going as far as matching series numbers?

NOT TRUE. The center sometimes cant cost more or just as much. My RC62 was just as much as each one of my towers.

The FRONT STAGE should match.
