Default BBC iPlayer on PS3

just incase anyone doesnt know you can now use the bbc iplayer (watch all bbc tv content online) via your ps3.

using your ps3 web browser go to www.ps3iplayer.com and all content will be played.(top gear )

dunno if this will work for people in the usa but its worth a try

"We hope, in time, to make suitable modifications which enable users of other gaming consoles and set-top boxes to use this user interface," Mr Rose said. In particular, he suggested that the BBC is planning to make the online service available for the Sony PS3. Once again Flash issues are holding the release back, specifically some compatibility problems with the PS3's latest update to Flash 9 that were currently being looked at by the broadcaster's Flash development team.
Good to know they're looking at PS3 support. Ideally SCEE would work with the BBC on a dedicated application like VidZone, even if it's just a flash player without the other web technologies running in the background. But official browser support is better than the workaround posted above.

Just noticed it says "Sony PS3 support is in development" on the Where to get BBC iPlayer page under the Games Consoles bit.

It's about time the UK had one thing over on the USA in terms of gaming.

Great news that this now works though!!!

BBC America doesnt get all the good shows, and the ones it does (Top Gear) are a season or two behind. But I guess they want their American network to succeed, and fewer people would watch it if the newest and best shows were available on the PS3.

This bit's right, but you don't need the workaround site anymore.

Can you just make a UK account and use the BBC iPlayer like that?\

Or is it because of your IP address?

It only works for those in the UK, according to the site. I tried to play Doctor Who and EastEnders.

Is there anything like this for US networks. I watch many prime time shows I miss online and I would love to use my TV for them.

Any way to fool the IP? Man, I hate that they can detect where you are. What's the point of the internet if you can't go international? :P

Because the BBC is a publicly funded corporation - and I literally mean the general public, via an annual fee - why should it be available for free for those who live outside the UK, and therefore don't pay for it?

I'm a British ex-pat living in Canada who'd like nothing more than to be able to use iPlayer just as people in the UK can - but as an ex-license payer, I understand the need to protect it.

Besides, it's not like you can pay a monthly fee for UK based VPN account and use iPlayer that way or anything is it?
