Default Best Picture 2008 - New and Improved

Due to the other thread getting hijacked, and thrown off course, I decided to start up a new one where we can hopefully have some civilized talk about what we think will win Best Picture.

Feel free to vote, and explain your choice, but try to avoid downright bashing other peoples choices.

Edit: I think I listed just about everything that's likely to be nominated, but feel free to throw others out there.

The Dark Knight is my choice but I have yet to see The Wrestler and Button so those could top my list. Wall-e would be my second choice.

I agree totally. Too bad that neither movie has a chance to win the Oscar for best picture.

Honestly with all my heart I think Slumdog deserves it.

Its story was new and original while being upbeat and fun, the acting was realistic, the soundtrack is the ****ing best of the year, the visual and camera work were phenomenal...over all I love Slumdog and think it should win.

Call me a trend ***** if you must but the Dark Knight was the best film of 2008 period.

Give Heath the award for best supporting actor as well.

i have to say wall-e. TDK was great but no movie can beat cgi in terms of pur quality video, can come very close, but if you are talking about pure quality video then it will be computer generated

*EDIT*
So i guess i misunderstood the the thread! i thought this was about PQ, oh well! I am stupid, but now i know what is meant by "best picture" i would have to say Dark Knight!

Though I don't believe the academy would want to recognize The Dark Knight, out of the movies I saw that was the best with The Wrestler and Wall-E right behind it.

Best Picture: The Dark Knight
Best Animation Picture: Wall-E

They do have two seperate categories

I think for a movie to win it should have to have made at least 50 million dollars,or maybe 75 if not higher. Otherwise how can a movie be considered the best if its only seen and agreed on by the academy members and their specific tastes.

Box office should never come into play with oscars, that means by theory that the Saw films could go up for them...

Movies are more than just a business...they are art.

Anyway, out of all the movies I have seen this year, and all the Golden Globe nominations, I would have to give it to SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE hands DOWN. Although I LOVE Revolutionary Road and some of the other ones, Slumdog is just the winner by a milestone.

I hope that all of these films make it on Blu-ray soon.

The Dark Knight is still my favorite film of the year.

I am surprised that "Iron Man," "In Bruges" and "Kung Fu Panda" did not make the poll.

They could still be up for them now. They wouldnt win either way although they are real good movies and probably the best of their genre. I live in Daytona Beach Florida, not a small area by any means, and only 4 of the movies in this poll have even played in any of the 4 theatres around here. So how can a movie be voted as the best if no one sees it.

No Country For Old Men only made about $72 million last year. And IMO, I believe that the movies that are considered the best by the academy members are the ones that cater to their specific tastes and the ones they agree upon. Otherwise we would see more summer blockbuster popcorn flicks nominated.

I have watched only the Dark Knight and Wall-E so can't really vote for any of the other ones. To have little to no dialogue in nearly half of the movie and still have a great success with audiences and critics alike nowadays is a pretty good accomplishment. Wall-E also has some good messages, (not saying that the Dark Knight doesn't) . I would give the edge to Wall-E over the Dark Knight even though the Dark knight may have been better.

I am sure they have been played around you if you actually looked when they were released and what not. They dont promote good movies one TV so you actually have to search when it comes to "oscar bait" films.
