Could it be metric sized panels that are "close" to SAE?
18.9in is more or less 40cm
31.5in is more or less 80cm

Haha call me obsessive maniac but I actually measured the TV model I ended up buying to be sure it was indeed 52" in diagonal cause I only trust what I can ascertain for myself.

Mine was sold as a 58" diagonal, had to measure it to see if it would fit in my car and it's 60" wide. I'm not worried one bit about what it is diagonally after knowing it's 60" wide including about 1" on each side of bezel. Funny thing, it took about 4 tries with the tape measure to realize it was never fitting in my car and had to get the ex-wife to help me drive it home. Thank god for a PT Cruiser. Those things are so much bigger then people give them credit for.

I remember when my Stepdad bought a 65" Toshiba DLP 1080p, trying to stuff it in the back of a 2007 Chevy Tahoe. Just to realize it's to big with the stand, lol. But we stuffed it in there and tied the lift gate down, it did not close all the way. We also had to take the tv out of the box, lol.

I AM DOING THAT RIGHT NOW! This is just like contrast ratio.

Anyways this is just like Auto makers advertising the MPG. When they say 34MPG they really mean 31MPG

There's got to be some fine print somewhere in the manual that details that the inches used are an estimation of actual viewing size and not an absolute.

If it's in the manual, it does not matter. It's advertisement, not like there going to let you open the box so you can read the manual before buying.

I am just stating, as I do not care about a half inch or less. That's what we American's get for using inches.

Are they shrinking, or have they never been the specific stated size? I have seen some companies refer to them as "class". As in the 65-inch class set.

I expect the actual panels are metric, and the inches is a close approx.

pretty much never been. Back in the CRT days the excuse was that the tube was X" but the viewable was smaller.

Sort of hijacking here, but this reminds of when my not yet wife and I picked up a free sofa in her Type 10 Chevy Cavalier. It must have been 1993. We had to get it from Ypsi to my apartment on Ann Arbor. Needless to say, it would not fit in that car, no even stay in the hatch on its own. We made the drive with her driving and me hanging on to the sofa with all of my might, keeping it from falling onto the road. I will never drive anything but a pickup truck ever again.

I sont mind this as long as your dont purchase a 52'' and it measures 48''. were talking fractions of an inch in most instances.
