Default Harrison Ford Almost Superman

Quote:
MTV.com reports that Harrison Ford recently revealed to them during an interview that he was once considered for the role of Superman before Christopher Reeve was finally cast in the role for "Superman: The Movie".

"I think back when 'Superman' was first being done I was vaguely in consideration, but it never came to the point of having to try on the tights," Harrison Ford told MTV News during a recent interview.
Can't even begin to imagine him in tights......

Neither could anyone else, which is why he never tried them on I imagine. That's like the Bill Murray as Burton's Batman

Al Pacino was thought of as Han Solo before Harrison Ford. Can see that somewhat.

Harrison as Superman, Magnum P.I. as Indy. Some things are better off never happening.

yeah me neither the characters of Clark Kent and Superman don't seem to fit Harrison ForD.

I also heard that Will Smith was supposed to be "the One" in the Matrix Trilogy but he turned down the role because he was working on MIB.

That would be seriously strange, considering Star Wars hadn't even been released when they were casting. It's not like some studio big-wig threw out the idea because he was famous at that point. Interesting.

Did you know he was apparently up for a role in the late80's Torch Song Trilogy?

Actually Nicolas Cage was supposed to play Superman in Kevin Smith's remake or at least that was the BIG rumor back around 1998. That's more shocking to me than having Harrison Ford as Superman.

Look, I love HF. He is my favorite actor ever along with Bogey but I would take what he mentions in interviews with a grain of salt. He love's telling stories. During the 80's all he kept saying was how he was out of acting in the early 70's until he was asked by Lucas to play in American Graffiti after an introduction from another person. He was later asked to help during the auditions of Star Wars, reading the lines with the actors but he was never suppose to be in the movie, he became a late choice to be Han Solo after Lucas just figured he seem to be the one best working with Hamill & Fisher. Of course if you ask Steven Spielberg he will tell you that it was him who told Lucas to cast HF in the role

Now 30 years later, Ford is telling us he was considered to play in Superman, yet we have no footage of his audition in any of the Superman bonus features while we got all of the other actors and actress who made auditions Like I said, he love's telling stories and I would not take too many of the things he said too seriously.

Actually, this seems like one of those things that seem really weird to think about now. But had Ford actually been cast in the part 30 years ago, we'd be used to it and find the idea of anyone else playing the part odd.

I had heard of that rumor way back when as well. Although, I thought it was for Tim Burton's take on Superman. I also remember reading somewhere that Nicolas Cage got paid to play the part even if the movie did not get filmed. Of course, I'm sure that was all a rumor too.

IIRC, Cage was attached to the project during that whole developmental period, which included Smith's script and Burton's redo. Eventually the whole project collapsed and Cage was paid for doing nothing as he had a contract. Though I'm sure he wasn't happy about it. The whole reason he was even attached was because he pulled and lobbied for the part. It was his dream job.

Did you ever seen the old home movies he did with his cousins? You see him playing Superman in one of them, he's 14 or 15 I can't recall exactly, it's really funny to see him.

Dude, you received some clips of screen test auditions made for Superman. Don't kid yourself thinking those few clips represent the length and breadth of the actors considered for Superman.

Agreed there. However when asking what role Ashton Kutcher would be right for is kind of like asking, "What would you prefer for Breakfast? Bacon, eggs, and toast or a bowl of horse manure?"

No, I never saw those. Sounds like I'd get a kick out of them.

I don't know. I actually really like Nicolas Cage when he's not hamming it up or phoning it in. But Superman? I just don't think he had the right look for the role. I certainly would have kept an open mind had it happened though. Whenever I read odd casting decisions, I just remind myself how much I enjoyed Michael Keaton as Batman.

Kutcher would have been bad though. I personally don't hate the guy (I always found him funny on That 70s Show), but he simply does not have the acting chops to carry a big franchise film like Superman.
