Default ‘Prisoner’ star Patrick McGoohan dies at 80

The Prisoner was the first TV series (or mini-series) I remember watching and a brilliant one at that. Rest in Peace.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28657018/

"‘Prisoner’ star Patrick McGoohan dies at 80

Actor gained fame as ex-spy Number Six on 1960s British TV series

LOS ANGELES - Patrick McGoohan, an Emmy-winning actor who created and starred in the cult classic television show "The Prisoner," has died. He was 80.

McGoohan died Tuesday in Los Angeles after a short illness, his son-in-law, film producer Cleve Landsberg, said Wednesday.

McGoohan won two Emmys for his work on the Peter Falk detective drama "Columbo," and more recently appeared as King Edward Longshanks in the 1995 Mel Gibson film "Braveheart."

But he was best known as the title character Number Six in "The Prisoner," a surreal 1960s British series in which a former spy is held captive in a small village and constantly tries to escape."

That is very sad news, loved The Prisoner, such a different type of show.

I am sorry to hear that. I used to enjoy him in the Danger Man series, renamed in the US as Secret Agent. The well known song Secret Agent Man was the theme and intro to the show. He was also in Ice Station Zebra and also Braveheart. He will most definitely be missed. RIP Patrick.

Default The Scarecrow

One of my favorite McGoohan roles was Dr. Syn, aka "The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh", which was broadcast on Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color in 1964(?). It was one of the first color TV broadcasts (other than football) that I remember.

Ditto that. I just bought it on DVD after waiting for years for it to released.

Same here. It was nice for Disney to issue it as a Collector's Edition, but I would like to see it on blu-ray.

Horrible News. I guess he will never see the remake of the show on AMC.

Shame, sir--
Here's the hint:
And here's the rental:
...Now report back in three days with your essay.

(And for everyone else, McGoohan's last major film role, that we're probably guessing nobody knew about... [at 9:02] )

Definitely one of my all time favorite shows that had me hooked first time I saw it as a kid. He was just cool as Number 6.

He was also so great in Braveheart and Escape From Alcatraz. He'll be missed.

"The Prisoner" is simply one of the greatest television shows of all-time. It really was years ahead of its time and was a forerunner to more modern fare. He will be missed.

Still is.

I am a big fan of the series and rarely have I seen anything like it. Although it is frustrating that a TV series can ask so many questions and leave them unanswerered (but hey, Lost is a big hit so what do I know).

Rest in peace.
