I think the reviews should be taken with a pound of salt. This series has never been about much more than blood and gore.

Seeing it friday. Can't wait. I'm glad it was screened for critics, means that the studio has some confidence behind it.

I'll be seeing this on Sunday. Can't wait, looks great imo and I can't wait to get the uncut version on BD. As far as the reviews go, I'm sure they'll mostly be negative. Looking at RT, the TCM remake was only in the 30's and TCM:TB got a 13. I enjoyed both of those movies and am sure I'll love this one that much more.

.... Wow -- I don't get how one enjoy something where there is paper-thin caricatures (not characters), a mega-predictable-plodding plot and actions and/or turns taken that simply defy all laws of physics and logic. Plus... Jason Vorhees is now a pot-farmer... I mean, seriously...?

Typical, glossy, empty, conglom-bred camp. There's very good reasoning behind all of Platinum Dunes' movies' low critic-scores.

Can someone please help me? Is this Friday the 13th a remake of the original or simply another installment with the same name as the first? I orignally heard it was a remake of the first 13th but am seeing "Jason" in the previews. Wasnt it only the mother doing the killings in the first one? not jason?

I'm seeing it Friday regardless of reviews. I looks like just a really cool and gory horror flick with some scares and that is exactly what I want

That's what I thought. But if it was truly a remake it should have had Mrs Voorhee's as the killer. Some people are calling it a "mish-mash" of the first 3, but a sequel is a sequel IMO. I think I'm just going to call it part 12 from now on, because it basically is just another sequel.

i don't get how qaulity made movies can't even get barely above 30% on rotton tomatoes, but crap like this and that 3-d horror movie get above 40%? something is very wrong here methinks.

Just go see it for yourself who cares what everyone thinks its your opinion that counts as you are the one seeing it and interpreting it. I use to really enjoy Fangorias reviews but I mean they are as of late just giving their seal of approval on many movies that just blow so even them as much as I love the magazine and read it religiously its hard to even take what they say seriously. Anywho I say if you enjoyed the TCM remakes then you will most likely enjoy the style this movie will be in.

Has any horror movie ever gotten a good review from critics? Maybe a few here and there, but critics never really seem to like them.

I am absolutely stoked about this movie.

Because some people review movies on what they are made for and target. Honestly if this movie is a slasher flick where a bunch of teens get killed, nudity, drugs, the whole deal then it is a success IMO. Movies like this appeal to certain people and tastes. This movie never was made to be a Oscar winner or serious movie. Honestly would people care for the inner struggles of Jason Voorhees? Rob Zombie tried that crap with Michael Myers and bored the crap out of his audience.
To me this maybe a fun bad movie that would get a higher rating and desrvingly so, compared to The Day The Earth Still remake that failed on levels while trying to be serious.

The Descent was the last one I could think of.
