Hi all.
I am very long overdue updating my gallery, but you know how it goes. ![]() I had replaced several components in the last 3 years, but I didn't feel like going to the trouble of photographing and updating my gallery. (always a backlog of movies and DVR stuff to watch!) This all started when my old Hsu subwoofer went out on me (after 7 years I might add!) Well, Santa was really nice to me in November and December of last year. I got the following items in this order:
Quite a haul huh? It was not an entirely smooth process. Like I said, my former Hsu sub went out on me and I tried a Polk sub, which just didn't cut it. I was also having problems with my Oppo BDP-93 player and I had decided to send it to Oppo for repair and then dump it on eBay. For its replacement I tried a Sony ES 1700 (which was junk and turned out to be used so I returned it). Next I tried a Pioneer Elite BD-53 which looked beautiful and had great build quality, but was buggy as hell so I sent it back. Next I tried the Yamaha BD-A1010 and BINGO! It was great. I've never owned a Yamaha electronic product before, but now I think they're great. It's not buggy and its audio output for SACD->PCM is better than the Oppo because it is 176 kHz. Meanwhile, my Oppo got repaired by the good folks at Oppo. I was about to give up on them because I had heard all these great things about Oppo. But I had nothing but problems over a 9 month period with the Oppo 93. It turned out to be a bad control board which they replaced and shipped back to me fixed within a week. I had already decided to keep the Yamaha, so I figured I would keep the Oppo as a primary movie device and the Yamaha as a primary music player. Both can do BD/DVD/SACD/DVD-Audio/CD so in a pinch I always have a backup (which I like). Then as I saw the prices dropping for the VT30, I really wanted one and loved the new improvements, styling and the online apps. So there it is folks. Upgraditis at its best (or worst). ![]() Please drop by my gallery and have a look! Gallery Updates Thanks! ![]() Last edited by Jim L; 04-06-2012 at 11:57 PM. |
