Default Am I weird or is this normal?

Due to the cost of new releases as well as wanting to save some money, I am currently on a 14 dayNetflix trial. I want to use it for newer releases like Pineapple Express, Burn After Reading, etc. but, I can't bring myself to watch these movies since I don't own them and instead of watching Pineapple Express tonight, I am watching Blades of Glory since it came from Amazon today....so...can you watch rentals or do you have to own the movie to watch it?

That is pretty weird. I use to rent movies from netflix but decided i would just save myself the $17 bucks and buy at least 1 Blu-Ray i liked each month. But i have no problems watching a rented movie, i've even bought movies i rented.

Naw it's not weird, I have an aversion to renting as well.

Dude you can watch movies you dont own. Thats why you rent them from netflix is to watch them. You DO NOT have to own any movie in order to watch them.

I know I'm allowed to watch them...that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying I can't watch movies that I don't own.

Yeah, but if you rented something wouldn't you at least watch it?

It seems like this dude (or dudette) rents and doesn't watch. That's not an aversion to renting that's just senselessly spending money and getting nothing in return.

Hey, OP, why don't you throw some of the cash you're spending on Netlix my way. I'll save it up and buy a Blu-ray from time to time and then I'll let you know how the movie is.

EDIT: Sorry OP, after more careful observation and reading you original post, I realize that you haven't actually started renting, yet. But if you (or anyone else here) want to start sending me some money (or free Blu-rays) anyway, I would take it!!

I rent all the time. It saves soooo much money. I never, ever, ever, ever, blind buy, so renting is the way to go if I don't see it in the theater.

sorry.

I went back and edited my original post. Chalk it up to really, really bad reading skills.

On a side note, I would say if you have the opportunity to watch something for free, go for it.

Me too... I can't rent anything. Games or BD's I like to have the physical copy, then I can watch it.

Totally agree. I do the exact same thing.

Even If I did see it in the theater I sometimes rent it from netflix to see it again. I usually know walking out of the theater if I will buy the movie or not. Most times I know in the first few minutes of watching it. I will never understand blind buys. I guess I'm just to picky on the movies I like to own.

On subject of the OP. I think that is a little weird that you would rent a movie and not watch it just because you don't own it. Why try the free trial if you know you can't watch it? IF you didn't know you felt this way about rentals before I guess it's a good thing you got a free trail before you wasted money.

Maybe I'm just obsessed with Blu Ray and movies and I want to own as many as possible...kinda like collecting stamps or baseball cards.

That's why I got rid of my netflix account. I would rent movies and just let them sit by the tv.

I wouldnt do many blind-buys on new titles while they are at the full price.
On older titles that had some discounts, sure.
But for some reason I always pick the ones I've already seen (and liked) first

I haven't rented a movie - on any format - for about 15 years! In fact the last thing I rented was a VHS tape!

There are several reasons I suppose. The biggest being that I go to the cinema at least once a week so I've seen virtually every film I want to see already. If I like it then I'll buy it. If I don't then I won't.

Generally if I didn't see it on the big screen then (depending on the reason) I'll either blind buy it, or I'll wait for it to turn up on Sky Movies!

I buy the movies I know I'll watch over and over again and rent the ones that will be a one time viewing. I rented Rightous Kill yetserday and it was better than I expected but not a movie I would buy.
