Default Blu-ray version vs. 24bit CD . . .

This might be naive, but last Jan I bought the Sweeney Todd CD on Nonesuch. It sounds pretty good. (I'd say 24 bit resolution)
When the BD came out I got that too.
My HT is fairly decent. God knows ,the neighbors let me know all the time
just HOW decent. No matter what I do to cook up the BD it just doesn't
have the detail of the CD. All things being equal (?) do you think the BD
just has 16bit sound . . . and that's it? . . . . . . .

Will there come a day when all BD will be MPEG-4 or VC-1 AND 24 bit res?

24 bit sound on a standard CD? CD spec is 44khz sampling, 16 bit sound I believe. Sound on blu ray can be a lot higher resolution and sampling rate. Maybe the issues were how it was mixed for the blu ray, other sounds in the mix (eg, the movie), and maybe lower levels (eg, it being background music).

Standard redbook cd is limited to 16 bit and a sampling rate of 44,100 Hz. Many Blu-ray releases surpass that figure. Most modern Hollywood movies have masters at 24 bit and 48,000 Hz.
