Question 50" plasma

i have a 50" plasma 768 resolution, a young sales person at a circuit city store told me that a blu-ray player wouldn't do me any good as far as picture, sound, quality (etc., etc.) goes since then i've heard a few different opinions. any help would be greatly appreciated (thanks in advance)

The guy was a complete moron. NEVER listen to the salespeople at big box stores like that. Blu-ray will look amazing on your set. Here is a good thread to read on 768p vs 1080p. Ignore the crap by the guy who had no clue what he was talking about, and read carefully the posts by dobyblue. There's lots of other threads like this one, is you search around the Displays Forum.

Yeah, don't listen to that salesman. You will definitely see a dramatic difference in picture quality. The step up from dvd to blu-ray on a 720p set is huge. You will be glad if you decide to take that step .

I have a 768p Panny plasma, and from where I sit (12 feet on a 50" tv) the picture is incredible. And for me, I couldn't see the difference between mine and the 1080p version. At the time, 1080p cost twice as much, so the 768p was a no-brainer. I still think that for the price it's by far the best value today.
