Hello,
as always, I come to you guys for all things helpful and blue! I want to improve the sound I get with my PS3 and like the look of the soundbar above from Yamaha. However, I also want a sub, to get added base - but am unsure if it feeds into the the soundbar or the ps3. also, do i need an amp? Finally - i see the Yamaha soundbar does not do HD sound, but does have a HDMI connection - is it really that different - HD Sound from normal surround? Thanks! |

I recently bought a Yamaha YSP900 sound bar + YSTSW011 Sub for $700 Canadian.
This was for the basement. It is far superior to just the TV speakers. But what surprised me was that it almost sounds as good as the much more expensive 5.1 system we have in our living room. The Sub adds a lot. On music I can really hear the difference. On Ratatouille the sub gives quite a noticeable kick to some loud scenes. The 900 does not have an HDMI input. So it does DVD style of audio, i.e. Dolby 5.1 and DTS. I don't really miss the uncompressed formats. The 900 soundbar has the "receiver" built in. The sub plugs into the soundbar. The sub is active (it has its own power cord). If you have a rectangular room and put the sound bar along one wall I think you get pretty good 5.1 emulation. In my case I have it in a corner. It sounds more like 3.1 in that configuration (just Left, center, right). This is "3 beam" mode. Last edited by David Craig; 04-14-2009 at 05:44 PM. |

YAMAHA's sound bars are the best sound bars out there. that sad. for me I like my preformance series speakers from YAMAHA. big speakers big sound. if room is a problem than yes go with the sound bar. if not go with individual speakers. good luck

You can see my YSP-800 in my gallery, yes the sub does go into the soundbar. I actually like the set-up for the bedroom, more than enough sound for that room. I moved it into the livingroom when I bought my new Sammy A950 and realized it wouldn't be enough sound for the livingroom IMO. So I went with the Pioneer Elite and Klipsch's just haven't set it up yet.
