Default best Dance Game for PS3

my wife wants a dancing game. she keeps seeing a commercial for a Wii game, but i refuse to buy a Wii. is SingStar: Dance any good? that Michael Jackson game comes out in a couple months...maybe i should wait for that? what else is there that she would enjoy? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I hope this dance fad dies soon, and I wouldnt be surprised if it dies by the end of the year.

We had a party Saturday, normally we play Rock Band or something, but for some reason my girlfriends cousin wanted to play Just Dance 2....all of the sudden everyone (but me and 2 other people) got into it.

I really don't understand the hype of that game. The song selection is minimal and horrible, and there's only about 20 songs up for DLC.

Singstar: Dance feels like an ehhhh-tacked on addition, but if your wife would enjoy dancing while you or someone else sings on Singstar then go for it. The more pricier route would be to go with the Dance Dance Revolution package, which would include the game and dance pads as well as support for the Move. Essentially tho', the game experience will be pretty much the same as whatever dance game is on the Wii-the player having to mimic the onscreen directions to progress.

If anything, I will at least give credit to Harmonix for not going specifically in that direction with Dance Central because the whole having to follow the onscreen thing exactly has never been my favorite thing when it comes to dance games.

yes, and it died around 2002. Guitar Hero/Rock Band took over, and fizzled out. Just Dance/Dance Central will too.

The word fad just seems a tad strong to me. DDR, the series, is still being supported by Konami. Some people like rhythm games and some don't. In response to the waning media interest in Guitar Hero and Rock Band, the lack of interest in the Crash Bandicoot series wasn't exactly the death knell of 3D platforming.

Regarding the topic! The only recent piece of rhythm kit that piqued my interest is Dance Central, but that didn't seem to be the answer you were looking for and I don't have the game myself. Michael Jackson is the King of Pop, but, at least on the Wii, that game looked kinda meh. I think due to the lack of leg tracking like you find in DDR or Dance Central. You can watch a Quick Look of it on Giantbomb.

That's true, but there were so many other platformers out there before, and during Crash. Had Mario died...then we'd might have a bit of a comparison. The only other alternative besides GH/Rock Band is Power Gig, which is awful.

Singstar: Dance is good, but it can frustrate SOME people. It's due to the professional-like moves they show you on screen. However, you can't beat the addition of the actual music video playing. I don't think you can have the music video playing while the dancing is happening, but I haven't tested that theory, yet.

I don't know anything about Zumba, but I think it's a casual type moving game.

Yeah Everybody Dance came out not that long and is by far the best dancing game on PS3 IMO. No dance game on PS3 is going to compete with the likes of Dance Central on the Kinect due to the technology being less suited for dancing (Just as the Move is better suited for other genres) but this is the first one I have personally still enjoyed on PS3 despite owning a Kinect and all the dance games for that. Hated SingStar Dance and Michael Jackson.

Anyway it is made by the same studio as SingStar but this time instead of a flawed expansion is designed from the ground up to be a standalone dance game. So a lot of the game as a result is much improved. Tracking, the on screen dancers, scoring system etc. But also keeps some stuff from SingStar people like such as being able to upload/view photos and videos.
