Default Is The Dark Knight Oscar-worthy?

Most everyone knows what an outstanding movie it is, but beyond all the enjoyment, is it genius enough to earn academy awards? It seems that for every fan that says it should, there is a critic saying it shouldn't... vote.

Vote unbiased as a critic, not a fan.

TDK will win:

Best Supporting Actor
Best Score
Best Makeup
Best Sound Effects Editing
Best Special Effects
Best Original Screenplay
Best Cinematography
Best Director
Best Picture

The short answer is "Yes, The Dark Knight is Oscar worthy".

It deserves to be nominated for Best Picture, but not win. Keep in mind even getting nominated is a huge honor. I think Ledger will win Best Supporting Actor though, and most deservedly so

What do you think was a better movie this year?

I'm banking that once December is done, it will be dethroned of best film of 2008. If I were a betting man I would say it will be Frost/Nixon, Milk, or The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

WALL·E? (Not saying it's better than TDK...but it's worthy, IMO.)

Anyway... I honestly do think TDK is Oscar-worthy. It was a great movie.

Wow. I really dont think so. A couple of those maybe, but sweeping like that? No way. To be honest, I think a lot of TDK superfans are going to be bummed when the Oscar noms are announced.

Didn't it already get disqualified for Best Score?

I haven't been to the theater much this year but I've heard good buzz on all of those.

Oscar Worthy-yes

Best Picture-won't win
Best Supporting Actor for Ledger-deserves to win and should, not b/c he died, b/c of his performance.

Most are saying Benjamin Button and Slumdog Millionaire will be among the movies nominated for best picture. Obviously judging from the first screenings... I don't think Brad Pitt has that kind of influence in a movie though.

Why would it be disqualified for score?

Nobody thought a Batman movie would be the 2nd highest grossing film of all time. Remember Return of the King swept the Oscars. TDK has a shot of doing very well.

Hahaha, no. Especially since the score has been disqualified.

Too many people were listed as collaborators on the score. I believe there is a limit to two or three people, while the Dark Knight and Batman Begins scores both listed six or more names.

I think that it will have a real shot of winning these:

Best Supporting Actor
Best Cinematography
Best Make-up
Best Special Effects
Best Sound Design
Best Sound Editing
Best Editing

I have a feeling it is going to get a lot of the technical categories, but then get ignored for the big cheese, which would be a shame.

Academy said no. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ighlight=score

Good point on Return Of The King, though. I can't help but think that was the reward of the total trilogy though in part.

I think it's Oscar worthy, yes. Will it win? Probably not, cause I movies like NEVER seem to win.

It's really a shame that the score was disqualified. I honestly thought that it was one of the better parts of The Dark Knight. I loved the music, a lot. I still don't understand why it was disqualified. If a score's good, then it's good. It doesn't matter if 500 people were credited...
