Default Music Hall MMF-2.2

After a few listens on my old dusty, cheap player I've decided I want in on a new TT. I've decided to at least go all out and try for a nice entry level player. i stumbled across Music Hall MMF-2.2 and have read some nice things about it. I found it online for about $327+shipping. Does any have any input on this TT? I also have an Audio Technica preamp that I can use for now to hook up to my stereo receiver. Thanks guys.

I think I'm sold in it. I just need to watch a few YouTube videos to see it in action.

The MusicHall TT's were modeled after the Revolver TT's I believe, for which Roy Hall was the N.A. distributor. They are a fine TT.

MusicHall and Pro-ject TT's are manufactured in the same factory in the Czech Republic, so they have a somewhat similar sound I'm told. I cannot verify this myself, as I've not heard them side-by-side.

The cartridge on the MMF 2.2 is a MusicHall Tracker, the upgraded models use the Goldring 1012 and 1022. Although the TT will most likely be setup and aligned properly, they are easy to calibrate for a novice, which is a nice feature.

+1 to what the others have said. I would think that the MMF 2.2 would be a big step up from your current TT; a very worthwhile purchase!

I made my purchase online with this retailer. https://secure12.servelink.com/highdecibels/default.asp
Final price was $380 with tax & shipping.

Turns out the dealer no longer has the item stocked and is backordered. I requested a cancellation with no response yet. I have read some scetchy reviews regarding highdecibels.com. I found another one for $398 that I want but can't make the move while my money is pending in Paypal.

Update: It's now showing cancelled in my Paypal account but the transaction is pending in my bank account. I contacted Paypal and they told me to wait 3-4 days for it to complete. I think in the meantime Im gonna order the other player and hopefully get my money cleared by next week.

Finally got my new player in today. I'm going to set it up tonight. I already have some accessories like an anti-static mat to replace the stock felt mat. I also have a 16oz brass record clamp to keep my playback flawless. I hope this won't burn out the motor. Anyone have any experience with this type of clamp? I do want to eventually upgrade with a Pro-ject speed box but I'm tapped on funds for now.

Update: A little underwhelmed at first. I chose Nirvana Nevermind to christen my new player. I had to crank up the volume past 30 to hear anything. This could be due to my speaker setup which is just a small 5.1 set up with an 8" subwoofer. But man o man the clarity is crystal and every note is precise with no skipping. I'm sure I would love this thing even more with a decent speaker setup. But so far I'm loving it.

Its plugged into an Audio Technica preamp. When I first played it I thought something was wrong cause I didn't hear anything. I had teh volume at 10 and had to crank it up to 30 to hear anything significant. I'm guessing that it's just the speakers are small so there isn't this loud presence of sound unless the volume is up. When it's up it sounds awesome.

You should list your TT, cartridge and preamp in this thread, so I can update the list.

Hi Tyler,

How's the TT working out for you? I see you're buying vinyl, so that's a good sign!

whats even more interesting is that if you look at music direct, and you pull up a product for the Pro-jects, it will list the Music Hall TTs as suitable products to use with their TTs as well. Personally, I think theyre much more similar then different.

I would not disagree with you there, especially regarding the Debut's and MMF 2's.

Hi John! While I've always been a vinyl collector for over 10 years. This is the
first time I have ever had a truly remarkable TT like the MH MMF-2.2. The sound quality is flawless and beautiful. I love how you can set the force tracking. They recommend between 17-18 and I have mine set on the highend at 18. The music sounds alot more punchier with the heavier setting even at 17.5 where I had it before amazing! A few upgrades I have is a brass weight clamp and an anti static mat which replaced the stock felt mat. I really want to get a speedbox next. And like callas01 mentioned the Pro-ject Debut and MH 2.2 are very interchangeable that they recommend their speedbox.
