Default Need LCD Expert

LCD experts. I need help.

I have been trying to get a new TV for a year now and have asked this forum many questions. The problem has been I have a rear projection TV that has been great which has made the purchasing a new one a little difficult to get my wife on board. A miracle has happened. My TV went caput last night and now I NEED one.

My problem:

Reflection
Behind where we watch is a bay of windows which causes bad reflection both day and night. This eliminates a plasma.

Size

The TV has to go into a cabinet. A 52” will fit and I can remodel a little and get the new 55’s in.

I was excited when Samsung came out with their 55” BUT Samsung has a clear panel which causes a bad reflection. This eliminates a Samsung.

Sony’s new 55” panel is not clear, the reflection is at a minimal BUT they have added the side speakers that cannot be taken off making it too wide for the space.

I can go with a Sony 52" and be OK for space and reflection but they are a little expensive but if that is what I have to do, I will. But my first preference is to get a 55" if all possible.

Here is where I need help----Is there any other manufacture of LCD’s that have a 55” coming out for 2009 that you would consider a high quality 55 inch????

Or am I stuck with a 52???

The best 55inch LCD right now would be the Samsung Model: UN55B7100. This is the LED LCD. As Far as a refelction goes, can you hang drapes or blinds etc in the windows to block out the light? Also, how much TV are you going to be watching in the middle of the day? If you do most of your TV watching later in the day, I'd recommend this model.

Remember: Every TV will give some reflection, you can not eliminate it completely unless you are watching with no lights on.

well for whats its worth we have a samsung ln52a650 which has the clear screen cover but glare isnt a issue even with all the blinds open. i was very impressed as our old rear projection tv had bad glare problems with any light source.

Sorry--no can do--the wife factor. We have white wood shutters and even when they are closed at night, they still can been seen as a reflection in the TV.

Yes, I realize that there will always be some reflection but I want to keep it down if all possible.

The Samsung 7000s, 6000s and the new 950 all have a clear panel that has an extremely bad reflection. If Sony did not have the side speakers that would have fit the bill. I even thought that I could cut the speakers off but that was in my deams.

I think there is the Samsung 52" 630 model that has a matte screen which is less glossy to help with reflections (this is open to opinion however). It cuts down on the contrast ratio, but those ratios are usually inflated anyway. Just a thought....here is a link to the TV from Amazon's website if you care to take a look:

Not sure about the screen but how about the Samsung LN52B750. Toshiba makes a 55" - 55ZV650U

The space I have is 52 1/4

The Toshiba 55 measures out at 53.62 wide where as the Samsung measures 51.7 wide.

Toshiba is too wide to fit. The Samsung does and so would the Sony if I cut off the speakers but as someone mentioned...

Ah, yes, the wife-factor. I am familiar with it.
Sometimes you have to just make a compromise... or convince her it is for her sake. Maybe there is another reason you can think of to cover those windows?...
But I think I may have convinced my wife of letting me buy too many things, as she is now forbidding me from buying any Blu-ray titles until we pay off the TV (next month and it is all paid off) and the new speaker I bought. And even then, she still won't let me buy any until at least August. My punishment for buying a $200 speaker when she did not want me to. I'm just glad that's all she is doing...
So whatever you do, be careful she doesn't get too upset or she will find ways to get back at you.

The decision has been made.

We are use to the reflections from the rear projection that I now have. My wife is the only one who watches TV during the day and does not mind the reflection.

I watch at night when thee really isn't a problem If I watch during the afternoon, I shut down all the shutters and lights which my wife calls the now dark area "the man cave"

This has been working good for both of us. So, I drove to Best Buy and looked at the Samsung UN55B7100. It really is a gorgeous TV with a great PQ. Doubled check all the measurement to make sure all fits and it does.

Best Buy has them on sale for $3190. I'll take a look around to see if I can pick one up a little cheaper. If not, Best Buy here I come.

Thanks members for you thoughts.
