Default Competing Franchises

So after seeing "Dollhouse", I realized it was basically the same format as "My Own Worst Enemy" (the adventures of brainwashed operatives controlled by a government agency or "company") There are many competing franchises put out these day in both TV and the movies.

To name a few:

Threshold - Invasion
Deep Impact - Armageddon
Volcano - Dante's Peak

Got anymore?

I have to get this right. Do you mean different companies(Lionsgate-Dreamworks) making the same type of movie? And seeing which one gets more money?

If so then
National Treasure-Sahara

Just different movie companies or TV networks coming up with the same premise at the same time. Threshold and Invasion premiered the same year at the same time (both were canceled) Dante's Peak and Volcano came out the same year. Both franchises were basically the same idea, just that studio's take on the idea.
Another:
Happy Feet - Surf's up (penguins)

Got ya. Think my National Treasure(2004) and Sahara(2005) fits perfectly with that.

Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) vs. Sherlock Holmes (Will Ferrell)

Not sure if it'll bring competition, but Terminator Salvation and Transformers 2 come out a month apart (TS first) and both share similarities, we'll see.
