Default Is Blu-ray worth it?

I have a 42 in. Vizio VP422. I don't have a sound system. I am thinking about getting a Sony S350 Blu-ray player. Is it worth it to switch to Blu-ray?

Yes. The difference will be noticeable and you will enjoy it. Make sure you get an HDMI cable for hook-up (get a version 1.3 cable off Amazon or Ebay for cheap).

When I got Verizon FiOS installed, I received an extra HDMI cable. Should I use that or get a different one?

HDMI cables are all the same, the difference is how much the manufacturer thinks they can yank out of your wallet. I have FiOS as well and I use their included cable.

If you are undecide about Blu-Ray, go to a nice local electronics or home theater store and ask for a demonstration.

You will notice the difference. You will love it. You will start reading this forum and the announcements every day looking for movie release dates. Your wallet will be much lighter, but you will love it and become addicted too. Before long you will join the 100 club.

Most definitely worth it; you will see a very noticeable difference in audio and visual.

I telling everyone in my house that the blu-ray is better but they don't want to upgrade. they do have a hdtv in the living room but they don't understand that blu-ray picture and sound is alot better than standard dvd. So I just bought PS3 and a 46' Sanyo HDTV will be mine in a couple more paychecks. I have seen the difference when I walk by the TV at my Wal-Mart and can't wait to own my blu-ray player and my hdtv.

Yes, go with Blu-ray! Definitely see a demonstration of a fine setup at a retailer, and really pay attention not only to the video quality, but also the sound. I'm saying this because when you hear what Blu offers in the audio department, you'll soon be wanting to get a sound system, even if it's on a budget, to take advantage of all that goodness on each disc!

After you buy a player, spend a little more and buy a couple movies which you really like. I recommend going to the "Movies" section (at the top of the sitepage) and reading the reviews on a few of your favorite movies. Pay close attention to the Video and Audio parts of the review. Since you already like the movies on your list, choose a couple which are highly rated for Video right now, as some Blu-ray discs are "transferred" noticeabluy better than others into the Blu-ray format. Those movies will offer the most visual improvement over DVD and will show you nicely what Blu-ray high definition movies are all about.

P.S. You can't go wrong with some of the recent animated flicks, such as WALL·E or Kung Fu Panda!

That HDMI cable should work just fine. If you have problems with it or would prefer a new one try monoprice.com for all your high def cable needs. Just make sure the one you buy is version 1.3 or better.

Blu-ray is absolutely worth it. HOWEVER, it has turned me into a snob. I can hardly stomach watching SD DVD and DO NOT watch low def TV.
I started buying movies only after becoming a High Def junkie. You will LOVE the experience but I recommend adding amp/speakers to your set up to get full sound aspect as well. I waited a year before adding sound and it adds another 50% to the experience.
Good luck.
