Default home theater

i have a pretty noob question. if i just have a center, 2 fronts, 2 rears and a sub, that is considered 5.1 correct? whats the advantage of having 6.1 or 7.1 and so on?

more separation in the rear effects. it is only beneficial in my opinion, though if the movie has a 6.1 or 7.1 audio track on it.

The bigger they better. The more the merrier.

I am actually running a 6.3 system and thinking about a 7.3. Why?? because?? Who really knows but The bigger they better. The more the merrier.

I would recommend instead of adding more, adding better. I think a great 5.1 can school a decent 7.1 any day of the week.......

You are correct. I was just goofing off. A good 5.1 system is really all one needs.

well whenver my return comes in, im going to do my home theater. im planning on getting an onkyo receiver. a polk cs1 for center. then my fronts will probably be polk monitor 50's. would it be better to just get 2 more monitors for the rear too?

depends on the room. monitor 30's would work just fine as surrounds. some say surrounds should be above the ear level, but people have used towers as surrounds just fine.

yeah, thats what i figured too. this is for my bedroom, so the surrounds will be by the head of my bed, so i need to have those above my bed, above ear level, correct?

another question too...

my room is in my basement. there is a toilet upstairs that sometimes overflows and leaks on my ceiling if i have speaker wires running through the drop ceiling and that happens, im looking at a bad situation, right? any suggestions?

Yes, do not run the wires ANYWHERE near open water. Absolutely have the septic system fixed if it needs it. There might be some water damage to the floor beneath the toilet and framework/joists underneath. I'd have a look above that ceiling tile, fix the problem (and your brother...lol).

Just get the fronts, center and receiver to start. That way you will atleast have something to enjoy while you get the rest of it.

Here are the best deals on this stuff right now if you don't mind the maple finish. Also no tax depending on your location, can't remember what states Newegg charges tax, but I know it's only 1-2 states.

Polk Monitor 50's (maple color) $99(EACH) no tax/free shipping

Polk CS1 (maple color) $79 no tax/free shipping

Onkyo TX-SR606 (black) $369 no tax/free shipping (from Newegg)

Onkyo TX-SR606 (black) $366 no tax/free shipping (from Amazon)

My dad just got this exact same setup and it sounds great. You will not be disappointed

well actually, im looking for black finish since all of my furniture is black. thanks for finding that for me though! so you dont think i should have a sub to start? i always thought the .1 of your setup was a must?!

also, do you think i should just go ahead and get the cs2 instead of the cs1?
