Question What are the HD DVD campers doing with their collection?

I think all the fighting, cat calls, and name calling has died down enough for us to enjoy a nice nostalgic thread on the subject.

I know many on this site are probably former HD DVD devotees and am wondering what they do or did with their collection.

Poll coming in a minute!
They're probably enjoying their titles and buying new Blus, though I imagine some residual resistance to Blu lingers.

I've got roughy 50 HD DVD's still in my collection. As I purchase them on BD, I then sell my HD's to a friend of mine at work.

i still have and still watch all of my HD-DVD titles. lets face it, 1080p is 1080p
and my player had bitstream out for DTHD & DTS HD MA before blu-ray players could. I liked that a lot of the titles were dual format so folks could buy them that didn't have an hd-dvd player in preperation for a future upgrade; blu-ray should do that too. i'm never really sure why people sold or threw out their players and their movie collection. i suspect they will be valuable (to a very small degree mind you) later. my toshiba player still works great and if i didn't tell you it was hd-dvd playing you would think it was blu-ray. hell, i even watch something on my xbox hd-dvd add-on player once in a while i have a couple of titles that are in DTS HD MA & DTHD and they sound great! to my surprise, toshiba put out another firmware update a couple of months ago so they didn't completely forget about loyal customers like me; why throw it out when it still works great! before i could afford a blu-ray player that could bitstream my toshiba was the first player that could light up my receiver to show me the HD-Audio it was playing; and yes, HD-Audio sounds better than anything! I own close to 80 titles to include star trek season 1, battlestar galactica & heros season 1 as well as the matrix. Oh yeah, don't for get the terminator 2 ultimate collection edition from our friends across the water! well that's my story! hope to hear from others.

I still have about 35 HD DVDs. I'm slowly replacing them with BDs and selling them when I can. I have about 5 or 10 that I need to put up on eBay right now.

Keeping mine and buying them from Fry's when I get a chance. If it's an HD - DVD and its got a 1080p transfer with a Dolby TrueHD soundtrack then frankly I don't see the point in spending 30 dollars for the same title when I can't get it for 5 dollars or less.

I've got an HD - DVD player and a laptop with an HD - DVD drive, so for me it's practical to continue to buy them.

There's quite a few Universal HD DVD releases that I wish would hurry up and come to BD. Just to name a few....

Carlito's Way
Timecop
The Getaway (Alec Baldwin & Kim Bassinger)
White Noise
The Watcher

It is a slight pain in the azz to have two (2) different players.

I am just glad that I chose the wright format to begin with. I would have felt like I wasted so much money had I bought into hd dvd.

I agree with your post. The movies are not going to vanish just because the format is dead. Most HD DVD owners have already bought into Blu.

I wanted the movies in high-def. I didn't care what format they were on and that's why I bought into both formats. If I wanted to enjoy "Out of Sight", "Transformers" or the "Bourne" films, then I needed to buy an HD DVD player at the time.

Ugh. Let me tell you I actually did BRIEFLY consider an HD DVD player for Transformers and maybe Shrek. Why? Well, I long thought about buying blu-ray in anticipation of Spider-Man 3 because I waited my whole life for a Spidey flick with Sandman. Even after seeing the film and not being wowed, that didn't deter me.

But after seeing Transformers.... I was simply blown away. I made my brothers stay with me to watch the closing credits. I was walking up the aisle near the very end of the credits as the house lights turned on. I paused at the top of the asile, turned back, and told myself right there and then I AM BUYING a blu-ray player for Transformers.

Then Tool-shiba had to go and make exclusive HD DVD deals with Paramount / Dreamworks. By then I had my blu-ray player mere weeks. Like so many other people I was PISSED! Took me like two weeks to think rationally again. But it did usher the birth of the blu-bloods - much to the anger of even more members. Many have dropped the moniker from their signatures, but occasionally I still get new members asking to join. I appreciate the original few who still keep that historic signature.

I only ever bought three HD DVDs. I have replaced one with Blu-ray, the other two haven't been released on Blu-ray yet. My HD DVD player is collecting dust. I did use it for a while as an upconverter for my bedroom TV, but then I got a PS3 for that one. I will probably just end up tossing them. I was thinking about ebay, but I haven't done anything on ebay for over a year now, and it is just too much trouble for what I would get for them. I guess I could try a used DVD place. Or maybe I could get rid of the player and the HD DVDs in one shot on ebay. I'm sure there is someone who might want them.

Making wind chimes out of them?

Actually, if I had a bunch with a player, they'd be impossible to sell for any decent amount of cash and I'd be damned if I'd throw them out like all my old Laserdiscs so I'd keep 'em and watch them until the player died then I'd see if there's any market at all for the discs through collectors. I sold 260 Laserdiscs this past year for 150.00 so although you eventually take a big loss, there is a market for everything.

I have 202 HD DVD, and I am going to keep them. I have three HD DVD players, and as long as they last, I will keep the movies. I now have no DVD player in my system thanks to the HD DVD players. .

Still buying cheap HD DVDs to play in my Toshiba XA2 and buying Blu-rays too for care and feeding of my Sony BDP-s350. As some one pointed out 1080p is 1080p.

I still have 2 SDVD players (KiSS 1100 & Cambridge Audio), two up-converting players (KiSS 600's), The PS2 (SDVD), original X-Box (SDVD), The PS3 for Blu-Rays and an SDVD recorder/player (Pioneer). Oddly enough... only two TV's.

Then there is "I, Robot" 1080p ...

I'm sorry, but bit rates matter. So does the quality of the transfer.
