I have a question regarding the ability to have your reciever assign listening modes. For example: I have a Rush Blu-ray concert (Snakes and arrows) that was recorded in Dolby TrueHD 5.1 and it sounds excellent overall; but I noticed that the reciever wouldnt play in Dolby TrueHD and as I went through the various listening modes as I was watching it; I noticed that my Dolby TrueHD wasent on the listening mode list. Now I know my Onkyo TX-SR605 reciever has this format. As I researched the owners manual I came across a section called Assigning listening modes and I saw where the mode is in the system. Do I need to assign the listening modes I want to the blu-ray? I hope this makes sense.

According to the Manual of the 605 page 63, the Listening Modes that will be available for a TrueHD signal would be:
- Pure Audio (not North American models) - Direct - Stereo - TrueHD According to this selection, your best choices would be either "Direct" or "TrueHD". If you don't have these choices, most likely it is because your receiver is not receiving the bitstream TrueHD signal from your player (by the way to bitstream the full TrueHD and DTS-HD MA tracks you will need to use the BDP-S350 via HDMI). To send the TrueHD track to your receiver you will need to set the BDP-S350 to bitstream (and not PCM) and select the proper track during playback. You can check the source format by pressing on "Receiver" then "Display" repeatedly to cycle through the available info. |

Thanks for the comments.
I will try very hard to answer all your comments. Yes, I`m running it through HDMI cable to ensure best transfer of information. I was told that I just need to go into the listening mode selections and decide on either DTS or TrueHD. I will do my research when I get back home in regards to the Sony BD player to see if I need to adjust from PCM to bitstream. Most of the people I have spoke with say to just adjust your listening mode on a per movie basis based on what format the movie is presented in; but overall the majority of people are saying set the listening mode for DVD section to DTS and you will be happy overall. I`m just now getting into the whole HD thing and learning a tremendous amount of stuff in regards to Home Theatre, and the amount of variable options that you can do with your system. |
