On this day in 1959, Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper all met their fate on that last plane ride.

That tragedy helped launch the career of Bobby Vee. My aunt used to date him.

I used to live in Lubbock where Buddy Holly was born. They've got a statue of him and a museum. Never went to the museum unfortunately. His widow also still lives there I think.

I think saying that the music died that day is a bit excessive. There's been many good singers after that.

Apparently being so far removed from the situation (by age and geographic location) has left you uninformed of the symbolism of the phrase, and the Don Mclean song of the same name.

I'm only 29 but I know a lot about the situation and LOVE Don Mclean. It's such a tragic song, the original long version not the radio edit.

I grew up in an era when rap and rock were all the rage but my Dad always played classic 50's and old folk and country songs.
