Question New B&W Sound Bar !

Not for me but I bet the sound will be great. Intersting to say the least. Taking tech from the 800 series

Thanks, but I'll stick with my non-soundbar B&W speakers.

Frankly, I think these mid-fi offerings at a high price-point give more ammunition to those who say B&W is the high end Bose. I'm sure B&W is making a fortune off its Zeppelin iPod dock and now it will sell plenty of these soundbars, but I wish the company would just focus on what it does so well: high end speakers.

My brother, who's shopping for a non-intrusive solution, will certainly not think this is a "waste of money"

after-all, he doesn't think his 60" plasma (wall mounted) that only gets standard (basic) cable is a "waste" he just wants decent sound/picture without sacrificing space. He looked at other soundbars, but didn't think the sound was enough of an improvement over the T.V. speakers to justify buying them.

Bah.... soundbars....

Speakers are the only way to really go with surround sound. Unless you literally had the room engineered and constructed from scratch around the soundbar, it will never be nearly as powerful an experience as a proper speaker setup. I've heard some of the best soundbars in action and they never have sounded good to me.

A real HT enthusiast would MAKE room for speakers!!!

I agree with the statements above. I have a full 5.1 B&W 600 series set up. However, I do see how a sound bar would fit for a small bedroom, if space limited a full 5.1 or 7.1 set up. For a second HD/TV set up for sure.

Kind of funny, I've seen in a few posts in the last while, people asking about sound bars and other people stating they are garbage and to buy "real" speakers.

All of a sudden a big name releases their own version and now it's "a great idea, perfect for people with space constraints". I'm not in any way knocking this, I think it's interesting. It's just funny how a brand name can change things.

Polk makes a pretty good soundbar that uses dual SDA technology. It is very expensive but is a great solution for those who absolutely must have a soundbar. I heard the B&W Zepplin and was not impressed at all. If this sounds anything like that...

Expensive? It's less than half the price of the B&W soundbar.

I'm actually gonna knock this, B&W or not. I think this one is honestly just for "Madison Avenue sex appeal."

I could be wrong, but I believe the only way to experience surround sound, is to be surrounded by sound. I dont believe that sound bars or 2 speaker surround sound systems do a as good job. They are giving the illusion of surround sound, when multiple speaker produce surround sound. However I am no expert, just what I have noticed.

I agree that a real 5.1 or 7.1 setup is preferred to a soundbar. However, they are very useful in a bedroom, second room, or if you live in a very small rental place. I have a Zvox soundbar in our family room and I am very happy with it. I don't use it for home theater applications, but for casual TV programs, it is very convient and is much better than the speakers on the TV.

Yamaha YSP-4000 for $1,800 used to have the title for the best high end sound bar (they call it Sound Projector) and Zvox 425 for $600 had the title for the best budget sound bar. The Yamaha has 42 drivers.
