Wow Tintin! I loved it when I was little, but I have not seen it in 13+ years, so I would not be able to say if i would still enjoy it. Has anyone here gone back and watched Tintin after years and still liked it?

There also seems to be this third disc of the show coming out on the same day.

I used to watch this show, but also have no idea how it would hold up for me as an adult. I'm a little concerned that they want ~20 euros each for three BDs when they only contain 35-40 minutes of material each. Surely the episodes could have been combined and released as a single BD-50?

Also, this was a France-Canada co-production, and apparently some French DVD editions contained English audio and subtitling.

Another question: Would this show benefit from HD? Was it transferred to film prior to original broadcast or have the French done a re-scan of the original cells?

Good question because I think the postproduction of this show was done on video. So it is impossible to make a new HD transfer from a SD source. I will update this thread when I have some informations about the PQ and the possible inclusion of an english track.

Yes, and the artwork mirrors the 2009 DVD sets that apparently retained the English audio track, so this does give us hope...

I did e-mail Fox just now and ask, but I'm not holding my breath for a response.

EDIT: Amazon.fr purchase links

Was this show originally in French? I'd prefer English subtitles if so as it is more authenic IMO

How long are each of the Stories? I am considering picking them up for my Mum for her birthday (providing English subs/dubs).

Yes it is a french production, and every story runs around 20 minutes.

Very nice covers indeed, but I agree with MacLover, bit pricey if its only 60min....

but wasn't each 'book' two episodes? so really it would be 2 hours per disc?

Awe Tintin, brings back some fond memories reading the books back in the mid 60s...

Exactly, depending on the episode length, each mystery was apparently 60 minutes or so, and three mysteries per BD equals roughly 180 minutes or three hours (I'm sure they have little/no commercial space built-in and were simply truncated on Nickelodeon; HBO had them first in the USA) and they are EUR 18.99 on Amazon.fr (with VAT), and they include DVD copies (great for kids/laptops/etc.) so while they aren't cheap, they aren't exactly outrageously expensive, either.

Looking at the French Wiki entry, each book (well 18 of them) are 45 minutes (I am guessing at PAL Speed) so for 3 books (6 stories) that is 135 minutes which is 2hr 25 (approx.) so this now makes it a lot more of an attractive buy at 20€ so I will pick it up (providing English subs are available).

I have noticed they are not coming out in order though

No, as they would be here. Non-USA titles generally don't get the type of pre-release reviews our discs do, so it's more than likely we'll have to wait until early September for a French member to fill us in, or some brave soul to import them sight unseen.

Hopefully, Canada will be releasing these in the future. And if they do, then they will have English subtitles or dub.

There's no reason for Canada to not do so. They have released the majority of French comic tv/movie stuff (Tintin, Lucky Luke, Asterix) in Canada with English subs/dubbing.

The, very incomplete, product listings on the FPE site state a 1.77:1 AR and French DTS-HD MA 5.1--very, very odd. If this is the case, it would me they have compromised the video and done a "fake bump" to a surround mix for the audio...
