Default Backbacking Europe

My cousin and I are seriously contemplating taking a month this spring/summer timeframe, strapping on a backpack, and just going. Has anyone backpacked Europe before, and could you offer any advice/lessons learned? Thanks!

Don't bring anything expensive, anything pricey (PassPorts). Goes up front, so you can always watch them... Your a pickpocket magnet, be safe and use protection.

Europe, hmm yeah I have heard of that place. Don't be put off by the profusion of languages, in London be careful cause everything is so damn expensive, in Brussels don't get too sick abusing all the sorts of chocolates hmm what else, enjoy

Like mentioned above, watch out with your valuables, nothing happened to me but I was definitely warned about. Started carrying my wallet in my side pockets instead of back pocket.

Look into the euro pass so you can go from country to country for cheap. (under 26).

It's nice when you can speak at least a little bit of the language (thank you , yes, no , etc)

Research about where you want to go and what you want to do. Usually takes you longer to do anything since you are somewhere foreign , that's most of the fun though

Have fun!!

My wife's cousin did this after he graduated last December. He had a balst but said that some of the hostels were a little scary. Try to research some online and find out about them. He went to one that was like that AT&T commercial with the techno freaks that was very gay (not that there is anything wrong with that) and sex was out in the open...he wound up leaving that one in the middle of the night. Another he went to was a drug haven (heroin).

He did Spain and then caught a flight to Ireland. Said overall that it was a great experience and he was glad he did it.

Being openly gay, it's nice to know there's gay friendly hostels. But I am not one for open sex, that's just creepy... I would want the privacy on some silk sheets in the room with my love one...

when I was younger My Highschool Italian class was going to Italy( the teacher was from there), and we were going to go for a week

I had a plane ticket and everything, but Parents at the time last minute decided it wasnt going to be safe for whatever reason.

My teacher allways warned us about Pick pockiting and I even think one of the students even got pocketd.

Dont cary to much money on your persons at one time.or anything else to valuable.
