These just arrived from Japan. Released by WB. Packages say all are 1080p. Parts 1 and 3 have DTS-HD 5.1, Part 2 and FTB have DTS-HD 2.0.

They're about $20 each + shipping. The more you buy, the more you save.

I would like to know this as well. I may go ahead and at least get part 2 to have as a stand alone release. However, if these are all better than Alliance or EB currrent offerings I'm all in.

I can't speak for the EB parts 2 & 3 (I won't bother with 4 films stuffed onto 1 disc), but the original uses the EB master but with less compression, making for a better picture. Parts 2 and 3 look pretty good as well, again not as compressed as the EB releases.

It comes down to how much you like the films. The EB releases would probablysatisfy most people, but if you're willing to pay the extra money, these are the best options out there.

Don't suppose you could do a BDInfo scan of the first film could you?

Already have the Canadian and UK versions, but will get the Japanese one if it appears to better.

Thanks

I don't have a BD drive. If you have the UK release, just stick with that. It sounds very similar to the Japanese release (except it has more extras than just the trailer).

That's what I said.

It depends on what you prefer. The UK release is from the same source as the JPN and US release. The Canadian release is too washed out for me.

BTW, the UK release is region B locked.

It depends on which Canadian release we're talking about. There's the original Alliance release which was washed out and had no features. Then there's the steelbook release which looks awesome and has a good bit of special features except "Full Tilt Boogie".

Does the UK have similar or better PQ than the Japanese? I would get the JPs for PQ, but if the Uk is comparable with loads of extras...

In terms of PQ, the first episode on blu-ray from UK is one of the worst release worldwide. It's DNR'd.
Best versions are the french, the austrian (uncut version - different from the german one that is censored so be careful!) and the italian disc (supposedly best PQ with highest video bitrate)

The other 2 episodes on blu-rays from UK are much better than their US counterparts but still inferior to the japanese releases in terms of PQ (especially number 2). Best releases for this one are the french and the japanese.

The third one is equal everywhere to me (I didn't compare screenshots or BD Info Scan , I "only" watched them all on my TV screen) but I still prefer the slightly better compression of the japanese release.
