When BD players are "crippled" with lack of Profile 1.1 and BD Live, things like this makes you wonder what's going on over on the other side. HD-DVD has nothing more to improve on and everything is finalized and then this happens.

Hopefully the studios fully test Profile 1.1 and BD-Live discs before the players and discs come out.

I read on here before that due to the Hd-DVD production process, they are unable to make a few copies of a title so they can test them in players; they have to do an entire production run before they can test. This is not how it is with Blu-ray. Search the forums here for this thread, because I read it on here. This is a HUGE advantage for Blu-ray, quite a cost-saving attribute. If the disc doesn't work in all players, they don't have to throw away a whole run of discs.

You know BDA will wait to release Batman and such until after they've tested the discs on post-halloween players, which have the 1.1 spec. They'll be primed for the holiday season.

Is that the same with DVD? - If they can test DVD without a production run, it sort of negates HD-DVD disc's are cheaper to make as they use the same process as DVD (apparently not quite the same process after all).

They can't produce test discs. This seems to be entirely due to the lack of PC burners. Blu-ray authors have many drives to choose from, but HD DVD burners are MIA..

Even when/if they arrive, the authors are faced with a 110 minute burn (1x) for a full 30GB disc.

I'll bet the LG BD drives (4x) are very popular among the BD authors.

^^^ You have to admit, some of the HD DVD crowd are a much more forgiving bunch.

Anyone think that Samsung, Panasonic, Pioneer, Philips or Sony would have gotten away with releasing a BD player that had the reliability of HD DVD decks?

It easier and cheaper to make, so of course it will have a lot more problems. Ummm, wait a minute...

No way, HD DVD fanboys would have spread that news like wildfire. They are just stuck with their $500 investment and don't want to fess up that it was a bad choice, so they have to forgive.

Our customers took about 6 months for bug fixes before they would release their products. We had over 80 test discs custom made. I know one player manufactuer had over 4500 tests they had to pass before it could be released.

Amazing. It's clear where the dedication to quality is.

Unfortunately, we have some consumers running around screaming for the quality, but then are unwilling to pay for it.

Thanks for clearing that up. Also, on the note that all HD-DVD players must have internet compatibility, I hope this isn't the case w/ all BD players, because up until a few years ago, my mom's house didn't have broadband internet, so downloading anything took forever. Many tech companies get so wrapped in the future for people living in highly populated areas that they forget about people who want room to spread their legs. I know when I get a good job I'm moving out to the country, and I don't want to have to pay $70 a month or more for satellite internet.

MY GOD! It seems like this disc is a total calamity, which is more than a little ironic! Damn glad I didn't buy it!

and the problems are not limited to the 360 add-on.
